Bought 2 jumbo ranchu from AMK yesterday. tongue.gif

This evening tried feeding them with hikari lionhead pellets.

They don't even take a look at the pellets.

Till now the pellets are still at the bottom of the tank.

What should I do to make them eat hikari pellets?

Should I starve them a day more or introduce other food?

Well, I still have 3 packs of Hikari Lionhead Pellets 350g, 1 opened and 2 unopened.

Should I try freeze dried blood worm as I have in hand?

I'm wondering why the don't eat the hikari pellets, is it because they were fed with better food in LFS or farm.

Please help and give suggestions. sad.gif Thanks. smile.gif

QT them well, keep them hungry for a day or 2 and then they should start picking up food. no harm trying freeze dried bw, but if after a day or 2 and they still don't eat, i might start to get abit worried.

Patience.

They take some time to learn.Chances are they were brought up with floating pellets.Never see sinking pellets before.
It is more common the other way round, ie most were brought up with sinking food and they take time to learn eating floating food.
Give them a few days and they will learn. No problems. smile.gif

Sudden shock to your fish. Better watch them closely the next few days.

i week is too long for me .. dun't know wat the heck it has been eating, or not eating before it got to me. Feeding a little bit gives 1 or 2 idea abt its health. generally after a few days i would start a few pellets per day

Ranchus in cold countries can hybernate for months without eating. So your fishes will not die of hunger if you starve them for 1-2 weeks. It is important you don't feed your fishes during quarantine. You can feed maybe a few pellets to test your fishes every 3-4 days. That's OK. but fishes in quarantine is not a holiday for them. It is a process of recovery from sickness and cleaning of the parasites and bacteria on new fishes. so you should not feed them as you normally do. Why u go feed them when firstly they might not eat. Secondly the feeding and shiting dirty the water and you need to change almost twice per day?

Hobbyist must understand the importance of quarantining your new fishes. Some may look very active to you but you never know what bacteria or parasites they carry. And they will pass the parasites and bacteria to your other older healthier fishes. You should also know that many fishes are imported from overseas. Maybe straight from Thailand or China farms. The water quality in sg is different. So the importers of fishes and LFS must be very skillful in handling such new fishes. If they are non experience, they will just throw the new fishes directly from foreign farms in new water in singapore. Buyers who buy these fishes will face problem of immediately unexplain deaths. Every fish carry parasites/bacteria. A fish can be really healthy, but when they are introduced to new water, the change in condition weaken the fish immunity and the parasites/bacteria on them will out break.

So my advise is, don't waste money. Do proper quarantine. Thumb of rule is strictly no feeding like normal, but a little test feed is ok.

Your fish not eating could be due to sickness and can also mean it is not used to the water here yet. But whatever the reason, plese do proper quarantine

usually i do the below, when i take the bag home:
-temp equalised betwe bag and tank water. abt 5-10 mins
- add some tank water to bag for fishes to get used to the chemical composition. abt 10-15 mins. (normally this is what i do)
- then introduced fish to tank, dump the bag water.
then starve for 3 days , see fish reaction.
some fishes can adapt immediately to the changes and some may not.
yrs may be the latter bec of water and new environment etc and still in shock and stress. should be alright.
(afternote: of course the proper way is as shown in this website:Quarrantine-acclimatisation

i also curious to know how big is jumbo, can see?
