I know that many will not be happy with the following remark : "if hobbyists can not win any awards at big Shows, it is because they do not try hard enough !  Do not complain, ACT !!!!!

i think it is more to do with statistics than skill.

- FFS has a "pool" of fishes to select the BEST one to participate.

- Hobbyist must not only have (1) the eye, (2) skill but also (3) the $$ to groom that (4) one rare piece that happen to comeby the little Spore island by opportunity. 4 factors to tackle. (minus breeder hobbyist of course)

- also going by analogy, how many times we see independent individual getting more votes than a candidate from political parties. hmm.gif

the ratio is just abt ok. Trying is one thing but luck and who u know is equally impt

Try to see it thro the fish's eyes
Try to feel it thro the fish's senses
And discover the true meaning of the whole competition.
Far too often in satisfying human needs and desire,we succumb to animal expliotation that lead to unnecessary sufferings of our fellow fishes that once gave us so much pride and honour. The least we could do is to provide them with adequate and ample facilities for them to thrive and show their best in such unfamiliar environment.

one can provide everything u could think of, following every aspect of the requirement, really, every thing in this forum of a new tank setup for a single fish .... except one important thing which many overlook ...

did anyone look deep enough at the filter ? ponder over it ...

Sponsor want their branding, would they allow another ? Like the Blues worn their airway, would they travel on another ? There are limitations.

I am split 50 / 50 on whether this is a sarcastic statement or just a poor phrasing of the English language in which the writer has no intention to malign..............

But I was told by the guy from Fengshui fish that the 1st and 2nd price ryukin belonged to you. :unsureHow many prizes did you want to win kekekeke....

The beautiful RM$11k Tunghoi Calico ranchu also belonged to you, I was told. unsure.gif

So matrix may I know what is their exact criteria for judging during the Aquarama
Happen to chance upon the chinese version of judging.Have a look here
A max of 200 points maybe awarded base on the underlined criterias

http://www.chinagoldfish.com/english/principlegrade.htm

We need to know for future reference as a guide to see whether our fish are up to it before embarassing ourselves leh.......

sorry, i also dunno.

there are 3 types for what i know.

1. Pairing - Aquarama already not using it, but some events might still using. Pairing is the most complex and highest difficulties. very high scoring for matching pair.

2. Feature focus - commonly used. Simple point system like what u got from the website.

3. Relative focus - this one is of high complexity. It's something like statistic. Head feature relative to body, body relative to finnage, finage to head, balance to color, color to uniqueness, uniqueness to balance. The mathematical calculation is extreme complex. And these are used by recognised judges to find the weightage for (2).

Point system can be pretty simple but how many points to give is not going to be easy. Eg : how many points to give for long tail varieties vs the short tail varieties. All these are relative to the show standard. Then how many points to give for Sakura vs a full red and relative to a red/white.

That's why u see in the website, they got to separate the varieties. what's the criteria for red, red/white, red/black, black/white, black/brown, brown/blue, blue, black. Tough ?

http://www.chinagoldfish.com/english/scope.htm

What's the criteria for a dragon eyes, what is a good eyes, what is not ? Should a dragon eyes looks like a ryukin or a wen yu ?
