helo guys, as above.... will it be okie to use in goldfish tank? will the ph get too high? will it create problems? smile.gif

coral chips won't be able to raise the pH too high by itself.. main worry is the efficiency of filtration, and toxicty of ammonia, if your filtration is working well.. just make sure your pH never drops below 7.

we prefer baking soda as it dissolves faster than coral chips, and also we change water very often

i be using size 3-5 sands, they r smaller will be able to filetr out fine debris, of cos before the this compartment there be the filter wool to fliter out the larger particules for the goldfish's waste... maybe i go set it up first and try it out if my idea works. tongue.gif Water changing is still a must good_very.gif

cool! sand is good stuff good_very.gif

not sure how fine size 3~5 is, but be wary of it choking (and hence flooding your OHF) as the filter matured.

tongue.gif i'm doing my own diy over flow sump, the filter floss and the sand compartment will be in the over flow box, even the snad is choke the water will stil be overflowing within the overflow box. besides the sand filteration, the over flow box will have a bit of space for culturing plants, hopefully the plants will help take up some nutrients from the water, keeping the water quailty slighty better. smile.gif

no sure how your setup is going to be.

main purpose of sand would be for biofiltration. if overflow and bypass the sand, you wold have wasted the capacity of the sandbed. if i were u, i would palce all plants after the sandbed. so sandbed take care of all ammonia, plants take care of some nitrate.

I do.
I also use oyster shells to raise the pH.
