In my personal view, the competition was a major success and I’ve seen vast improvement over the good old days or rather bad old days. These are the improvements I have noted during my post mortem evaluation.
Classification Now it is excellent to classify the fishes according to sizes to have an even competition among players Further differentiation was made on the category of whether the ranchus were topviews or sideviews lend additional participations and varied tastes. In my days there wasn’t proper classification,no proper categorization, just anyhow hum thumb To further confuse judgement,,goldfish were judge in pairs and not single,So to win you need two identical fish whether in pattern, structure or color. Judging At least this time round we have respectable judges both locally and internationally recognized for ranchu keeping unlike those days it is more of a celebrity judgement and someone from the PPD(Primary Production Department)to determine the outcome of the winners Setup and husbandry Although it is just an one day event,The set up was impressive and conducive for the exhibits as well.Proper aeration ,well trained staff and attentive management were plus signs seen unlike those days where electric tripping resulting in O2 depletion were often encountered.Tank size were fixed without any provision given to cramp two 30cm fish in a 2 footed tank!(how pathetic) What I would like to see? 1)Make it an annual event we can look forward to, not just only to compete but meet up with your kakis to talk and reinforce your passion 2)More vendors participaion in marketing relevant products like fishes, accessories, equipment, and food but not VISA cards! 3)Added attraction like guest speakers on relevant topics may spur added attendance(no wine,no woman and some food of course) 4)Better media coverage through newspaper, posters and more LFS advertisemnets To the present organizers WELL DONE and future ones GOOD LUCK and I’ll be looking forward to a bigger and better show…………………who knows maybe I’ll be back….hahahahahaha goldrush |
