The mostly red ranchu (fish no 2) has a humped back. No like.
The red and white (fish no 3) ranchu's tails is too flat; it should be erect at 45° (like the mostly red one.) The position of its tail joints is also too low. Not to mentioned the un-smooth back. Between these two, the mostly red ranchu is a better one. Try taking clear sharp pics for more comments from Frankies. |

You seem to be a great fan for ranchus' heads.
1st fish: Credit given for it's nice pair of pom-pom. The curvature is no good, although it "seemed" smooth. High back. 2nd fish: Credit given for it's pronounced headgrowth. The curvature is bad - Humpy, high back. And the tail looks terrible. 3rd fish: One word : Lousy. |

Too much emphasis on the headgrowth....
Personally, prefer a fish with better balance. Fishes with unsmooth back curve, defective tail/fin will definitely not improve further with better care. However, fishes with lesser headgrowth might improve with better food, water quality etc.... Just my 2 cents worth of thought.... |

Fish no 1 has an inverted "Y" tails. Sigh. Otherwise I like it.

They are not nice.
If you have a looking for goldfish with massive headgrowth and does not have a dorsal fin, go for the Lionhead goldfish. A ranchu has to be balanced in every way to be considered nice! |
