Green Water: No
Country: Singapore

Hi,

I change my usual method of water change last week by adding the water directly into tank and notice that the tank foam a little for the first three days.

I'm thinking that the chlorine in the tap water kill the BBs even thought I added anti chlorine.

Does anyone take out the spone filters just before adding water and than transfer them back into the tank after water change an hour later?

Cheers
Hans

I have no idea what is the extend of damages Chlorine in our water does to BB colony in sponge filter. But to be on the safe side, I usually take out my sponge filters and fishes before adding in new water. And as the water is filling up my tank, I would add in the neccessary amount of stuff like anti-chlorine and BS. At this time the water will still be filling up. When it reaches the level I want, I will turn off the tap and let the water temp equalize with the water (takes about an hour plus) . After this, I add in the fishes, my sponge filters and on my other filters.

Thanks Desireless, I did not observe any chance to my fishes as I add water slowly. Will take out the sponge filter next change.
