..A failed forum is one with hardly any post, may as well wind up since nobody interested to post anymore...

No wonder a few nights ago I had this nightmare that RG wound up...

Very hard to run a discussion forum which pleases everyone lah... Must keep it an informative website, with information as precise as possible... then also must allow "freedom of speech". How to keep this kind of balance? Does this kind of forum actually exist?

Not easy for the admins or moderators lah. It's a thankless job lah... People just don't understand lah... Whatever you do, sure got ppl complain. Very disheartening to see ppl criticising you for what you thought was the rightest thing to do.

Ah... you see? Like I say.... it's a thankless job. These people THINK I ENJOY moderating and deleting their "bo liao", "meaningless", "out of topic", "trivial" posts. Like I instill strict regulations for a living!?! Well done... You think I get paid for moderating this forum? eh? It is not cheap running a forum, understand?


My message to these people:

If you seriously think that Rafflesgold.com is such a HELLISH place to be at, because of its no-nonsense strict policy, then, please don't force yourself to come here... Seriously, I don't see why you need to login here, only to get stressed and increase your blood pressure. Agree or not?

Another point is, I have NO respect for members who come here to learn things, and then go somewhere else and badmouth about RafflesGold.com. I do not think people with INTEGRITY will do such dishonorable acts (And guess what... I know who you are).

So many times I see you making sarcastic remarks on RafflesGold. And most of the times, they are really UNCALLED FOR. And because you have posted those comments in a forum, YOU HAVE EVERY INTENTION TO LET THE PUBLIC READ THEM.

After being on AF for a while, I seriously think you guys are doing a great job here.

Why I think so?

Because its like LKY running Spore; everything is managed efficiently here. You simply have to, to retain a measure of control.

If you don't have rules, everyone runs amok.

When you try to establish rules later on, everyone revolts, so LPPL.

I seldom post here but the knowledge I have gained here has been immense and it helps me to help other goldfish enthusiasts.

Those who frequent the site will know that I am one of the moderators under the nick CP.

You are not wrong to say that the moderators there "holds a tight rein", as a figure of speech.There are reasons to do so, and it may not be applicable to other forums.It may have discouraged new members from participating,but last thing that we want is to have the same questions asked over and over again,clogging up the forum, when the answer can be easily found if you were to browse thru the topics or use the 'search' function.

We are happy to see the forum quiet as it is but are pleased that many are logging in regularly reading up the materials.We are still funding it even though it may appear more quiet because there is already a wealth of info collated, and, to our very best effort, condensed and filed properly.

Info management is our top priority.Its like visiting the library and knowing which section to immediately head for in order to find materials of your interest.That is why we try to condense and merge all related topics into one thread, whenever possible.And that is why we hate to see the same questions over and over again, because it makes our job more difficult.

Need to read up on buffering?Do a search and there is one massive thread collated.
Need to read up on chloramines?Just one topic will suffice.
Need to discuss pearlscales?There is one big topic.
Need to administer salt, PP or JYP?Its all pinned in the ailment section.

Info can be retrieved easily,and quickly, at the stroke of the keyboard.This is what we want.And this is why we will tell you off if you choose the easy way out by asking.And this is why the forum is more quiet.AND WE PREFER THAT IT REMAINS IN THIS MANNER.

But where has that got us?A bunch of arrogant tight rein moderators who anyhow tekan people, especially newbies,I suppose.That is what we are perceived by many.

We do occassionally browse thru the 'who viewed' list and it pleases us to know that there are many members with zero post counts reading the materials over and over again.We are pleasedto know that members have came in, read, learnt and benefited from it.

Lastly,I would very much prefer that you voice your opinions over at RG rather than me having to post here to make my stand.

Over the years, we have heard plenty of anti-LKY voices. But to me, these are just like little kids trying to break free from parental control. But little do they understand, parents are doing so for their kids' good. Without this man, Singapore will not be what she is today.
