This is not a discussion neither is it rubbish talk but just my point of view with regards to etiquette.Neither is this post directed at anyone.
Many a times we have a situation whereby a forumer posts his fish for one reason or another only for someone to ask - "How much did you pay for it?" Things are always sensitive when in comes to money.I am sure that you don't say hello to someone you've just met and then ask "so how much do you earn a month", right? Unless you grew up in Timbuktu, of course. You may tell yourself "no harm asking what, if he deem it private he will not answer lor", but to me it puts the other party in an awkward situation whereby by not answering your question he may be perceived as snobbish. There are a host of reasons why some may not like to disclose the price of their purchase: 1)He buys very cheap fish and do not wish people to perceive him as a poor man or a cheapskate 2)He buys expensive fish but is afraid that by revealing the price people will think that he has been suckered (carrot head or chai tow) 3)He buys expensive fish and by letting everyone know(when asked) people may think that he is a show off. 4)He may have got a very good discount from the shop because the boss is his friend and by revealing the cheap price it may be "misleading" info in some sense Normally if a forumer does not mind letting others know the price he will disclose it in advance.Such as "Got this piece for $35 from.......comments pls". I am not saying that you cannot enquire the price of the fish.It is perfectly OK to ask.You may have bought a similiar piece and would like to compare the price of your purchase and his, for eg.Or maybe just a plain kaypoh. But PLEASE, do it in private.PM the owner your request. It is much more polite this way and if the owner chooses to keep the purchase price private he will make his intention known to you in private so it will save both parties some embarrasement in a way. Okie dokie guys??????????? |

Unless you grew up in Timbuktu, of course. I buy 30 cents fish - I am a super duper cheapo LOL!. With all honesty, this is a forum, where FAQ, questions and such are being asked and answered. Everyone has a right to ask "How much?". The Fish owner has a right NOT to answer. He is not obligated to tell you - Full stop. I do not see any problem with that. It's just like personal opinion, some folks agree and some don't - but all have rights to their own view - there's no right or wrong answer. All are adults, so we can agree to disagree. Moreover, forums are forums, most with no face to the nick (I'm aware some do hang out together), so why take things so personally, if he don't answer or don't tell, so big deal? It's his right not to tell you and it is his choice - just like it is your choice to ask the question. It's his money to burn... cheapo no cheapo - why judge people like that? Never judge the book by its cover. But being me, if I have questions I will just ask - there is a 50% chance he will answer, cos if I don't ask... it is 100% no answer my 2 cents... |

I had seen the forum wars but here on this forum, the folks are very matured and much thought are usually done before penning any "serious" message (as in cpiw's message). Then there are some msgs that are plain bo-liow I am aware the folks here are serious goldfish breeder/collector/keeper with alot of good and best practises for goldfish keeping and tips. So some of these sensitive questions are deem sensitive, so, if one is prepared to ask the question, he must be prepared that the other party can don't answer ;) |

Ok- trying to answer u based on my opinion. I think in general girls like attention and give attention. Fishes are not pets that does that - Dogs and Cats do fit into that category. Locally it is just this way, but overseas it is not necessary so, the american ladies do have fishes and various other pets - like me - hahahaa an animal farm! In general, men spend more on high ticket price toys and woment spend more on low ticket price toys. Women spend more but on cheaper stuff (ie: $XXX (max))- makeup, earrings, clothing, etc. Men spend little but on high end stuff(ie:$XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX) - car, sound system, car sound system, bigger larger TV, robotic vaccum cleaner, etc. It's just that they wants the bigger, the larger, the wider, the state-of-the-art toy. I usually one want that fits wat I need. |
