"Coelacanth" (pronounced as see-la-kanth) is a prehistoic fish that existed 400 millions years ago. Interestingly, a few were caught by fishermen in the last century. They were mostly found Comoro Islands. About 4 were caught off Sulawesi, Indonesia. I was watching Channel U in which one taiwanese artiste goes to Indonesia in search of this fish. I was laughing in disbelief that they actually had a budget for such mission impossible. |

For certain, I do not hope that the clip is faked. I read about Coelacanth when I was very young and grew a hugh interest in it - Back in the 80's. That was the time when Coelacanth were not so commonly found. How ecstatic I was when I read that they actually made so many findings in the late 90s!!
For one thing I'm sure of... If I go scuba diving and sees one as large as the one in picture above, I would swim for my life as quickly as I could. No time to be awed by such sightings. |
