I have a friend who does not receive much education, but a fish hobbyist nonetheless and owns prize winning kois.I have learnt much from him in terms of fish appreciation.

He always stresses on the importance of "pookoolink".That is what made the scales of the fish shine.Be it koi, discus, arowana or goldfish,"pookoolink" is a must before the fish can be a prize winner.

At Aquarama 2003,he has shown me many examples of prize winning discus and all these discus are rich in "pookoolink".

So I asked him WTF is "pookoolink"? mad.gif Is it an English word,Japanese or Hokkien?
He doesn't know. All he knew is that it has something to do with calcium, and its like 'match flint'.

I suspect that it may be an English term.Any members heard of it before?

I have seen those pronounced reticulated scalation on huge Oranda but not in Ranchu here. The Scales appear more pronounced and rough(3-D effect with depth in each scale)But that was quite sometime ago liao cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Yo CP

Now that this thread is out every body scrambling to see all their fish got Fukurin or not?It is not easy as it take a few years to mature and manifest and to spot one young fish to show such a potential lagi chum.Ultimately it boils down to luck. How often we can keep a goldfish in tip top condition consistently for many years.Far too often our fish(usually our favorite ones)succumb to disease ,mismanagement etc before he even turn two. What is left for more than 5 years on are usually distorted ,underfed and stunted pieces.I hope I'm not alone in this plight.?????????

Ha ha ha first thing I did when I got back from work is trying to spot Fukurin on my goldfishes.Same old comments from my wife "first thing you see when you get home is always your fishes!!"Stared at the fishes for 10 minutes still cant decipher which one got Fukurin.

And I have also just stared at the pic on the Hikari Lionhead packaging for 5 minutes also see no Fukurin.

Pek chek.
