How To Convert An Eheim 2213 To A Bio-filter... Options

Im currently using an eheim 2213 external filter. im thinking of modifying it to work as a bio-filter, can anyone advise on the modification that i should made. i.e. What kind of filter media i should change inside the filter, and the sequence of placement of the filter media within the canister.

Even though with the external filter, i still see some poos floating within the tank, can i add in another 2 "guppy" sponge filter to solve my problems.


Can anyone please kindly offer some help...

You can add more sponge filters if you like, as long as you don't feel them unsightly

For your eheim 2213, you can follow the Eheim manual recommendation. However, if you find the recommended material too ex, you can follow my recommendation

1st layer (from the bottom):- ceremic rings, the smaller the better, fill up to 1/2
2nd layer:- Blue or Black sponge (course)
3rd layer:- Coral chips, fill 1/4
4th layer:- White foam (fine)

By looking at your recommendation, so what i need to get now to finish the set-up would be
the ingredient for the 1st and 3rd layer, just to confirm? I think the original eheim filter media
comes with the blue/black sponge and white foam. The other thing is how many pcs of sponges and
foam should i add in, one piece per layer or as many as i can pack into the filter media container.
Please advise
