A moderator is one whose performance is just moderate.
If he goes beyond for an overkill, he is known as a accelerator If he goes under, he is retarded… Who wants to moderate? |

You are not wrong to say that the moderators there "holds a tight rein", as a figure of speech. There are reasons to do so, and it may not be applicable to other forums. It may have discouraged new members from participating, but last thing that we want is to have the same questions asked over and over again, clogging up the forum, when the answer can be easily found if you were to browse thru the topics or use the 'search' function. We are happy to see the forum quiet as it is but are pleased that many are logging in regularly reading up the materials. We are still funding it even though it may appear more quiet because there is already a wealth of info collated, and, to our very best effort, condensed and filed properly. Info management is our top priority. Its like visiting the library and knowing which section to immediately head for in order to find materials of your interest. That is why we try to condense and merge all related topics into one thread, whenever possible. And that is why we hate to see the same questions over and over again, because it makes our job more difficult. Need to read up on buffering?Do a search and there is one massive thread collated. Need to read up on chloramines?Just one topic will suffice. Need to discuss pearlscales? There is one big topic. Need to administer salt, PP or JYP?Its all pinned in the ailment section. Info can be retrieved easily, and quickly, at the stroke of the keyboard. This is what we want. And this is why we will tell you off if you choose the easy way out by asking. And this is why the forum is more quiet.AND WE PREFER THAT IT REMAINS IN THIS MANNER. But where has that got us?A bunch of arrogant tight rein moderators who anyhow tekan people, especially newbies,I suppose. That is what we are perceived by many. We do occassionally browse thru the 'who viewed' list and it pleases us to know that there are many members with zero post counts reading the materials over and over again. We are pleasedto know that members have came in, read, learnt and benefited from it. Lastly,I would very much prefer that you voice your opinions over at RG rather than me having to post here to make my stand. Rgds CP p/s-To the administrator and moderators of AF: My apologies if you find my post intrusive,as I had not sought prior permission. My post in AF in response to Ranchu Lover: Quote: Originally Posted by Ranchu Lover in AF "I truly agree with you and see what has happened to some forums. You have been a regular visitor to our forum, and have also previously participated under the nick of goldfish Lover. We also noted that you do use the 'search' function very regularly, to seek information, I suppose. I do not see much contribution from you to our forum(knowledge wise, not postcounts wise) but that is not the crux of the matter. But I believe that you must have benefited in one way or another and in the end badmouthing us at another forum??? We do not tell newbies off for asking "stupid" questions.Someone once asked whether a goldfish menstruates and we simply answered "no". We used to tell newbies off if they ask questions that are being asked over and over again, but now, instead of telling them off, we simply move the posts to the "newbie issues" section. If you had taken notice. And we will continue moving newbie questions to the newbie section, to try and keep the forum as tidy to the best of our ability. |
