Hi everyone hi.gif been a goldfish nut since very early years, and concentrate mostly on singletails. I am a falconer by profession, specializing in falconry bird control on airports.

My two goldfish breeding projects at this time are making Sabao (from Hibuna and Fantail cross), and also putting yellow pattern on Hibuna. I'd like to discuss these topics, anyone have experience with either?

Great site, lots of reading to catch up on!

Tom

Hi CP

I'm very surprised to hear there's not much knowledge of Sabao (or Tamasaba?) on this site, strange, there doesn't seem to be much awareness of these goldfish outside of Japan.

It all started in Niigata with a cross of Syounai and Ryukin, the result of which was the creation of two types of cold hardy singletails. Sabao is the low shoulder, longer body form. Tamasaba is the high shoulder form with a short, round body.

I am interested in the Sabao form, but cannot import from Japan so I decided to try and re-create my own version from what is available to me. My first cross generation was bred this summer and growing well now.

Falconry is a hobby/sport, but is also a profession to some. You might know that birds are a serious hazard to jet aircraft, much damage (or fatal crashes) can occur when planes hit birds. My job for over 25 years has been to minimize bird activity on airports by hunting the birds with trained falcons and hawks. We've found this method to be the most effective means of controlling this problem.

Here's a photo of where I live, my place is in the trees in the centre of the photo.
