Goldfish8: Your tank is overstocked. I have heard that 20 gallons per fish is a good rule of thumb if you want to allow your fish to be healthy and live to their full potential life. I currently have a 125 gallon tank. It is currently houses four goldfish. It is filtered with a Rena Filstar XP3 and an Eheim 2028. They are very messy fish and their waste is poison to themselves. With your current setup I would do 5 gallon water changes DAILY. And if you can't find it in your schedule for that level of maintenance I would recommend buying a quality water test kit so that you can at least check your ammonia levels daily. If they go above 0.25 then find the time in the schedule to do a 5 gallon water change. Your fish will QUICKLY outgrow 20 gallons. Look into getting a larger tank sooner rather than later. This is a great site. And I hope that you're able to gain a lot of valuable information. This site has been a tremendous amount of help to me in these past few months. |
