Hi all from the Australian desert . I have an outdoor pond that I hand dug in the baked soil out here. It measures 2.2 metres long, 1.2 metre wide and 700 mm deep. I have a range of plants and fish all living happily. Currently there are a range of Oranda's, Ranchu, Telescope, Fantails all surving in summer temperatures of 35-41 degrees. Fortunately the pond in partly under a solid pergola roof and part shade cloth, the waterfall I built supplies all the oxygen for the system and only need to top up about once a week due to evaporation.
I was given two fish by a neighbour a 25 cm long fantail and a 12 cm Lionhead, the rest I have had to purchase online and had them flown here. I live at Yulara (Ayers Rock) in the centre of Australia so pet shops and equipment are in short supply out here Filtration is by way of a Claritec 5000UV filter and the water gets pushed through courtesy of an Easyjet 3000 filter. Along with 6 Laguna underwater 10 watt halogen coloured lights on a timer and a Buddha water feature statue it is a peaceful place to sit when I come home from work. I have a few more fish due delivery next week some time which will bring the total numbers up to around 30 - 35 fish. I have found only two sources in Australia that supply live fish online and arrange the air transport of the same, also a couple of places that supply the other pond needs, it's safe to say that I have been their best customer in these last few months. |
