After absorbing all the advice from fellow forum-ers, I managed to cycle my tub liao ( no dead fishes for abt a week liao, I use guppies to cycle my tank coz they are more hardy )
Time to buy new GFs liao so happy . I understand for newbie, shouldn't get too x one cos it still will die easily if not taken care off properly, so wat will be the price range / size of GFs that I should be looking at ? I live in the NE, any good place to get some healthy GFs ? Few Q again : 1. The GH & KH of my water is dropping, what should I do ? I read something on coral chips, any idea where to get that ? 2. I also read something on buffering water ( using baking soda ) any idea on that as well ? 3. I also read something on Activated Carbon to remove the smell from the water, is it true ? coz my wife complaining the water smell ( fishy smell ) although I dont think so Thanks in advance This post has been edited by jowy_ham: Tue, 06 Apr 2004 10:48 am |

I just bought 2 ranchus/lionchus from C328 on Fri, and have since QT them in my small plastic tank ( 15litre of water with methl....-blue solution ). The GFs are abt 2in each ( pay $10 for each ).
I did a salt dip on them today, after abt 2mins, they almost peng-sun then i quickly put them back to normal water and they are swimming happily liao. Thinking of moving them to my tub by the end of this week. Hope they kuai kuai, can survive 1 thing I noticed abt them in my small plastic tank is that the ammonia level shoots up quite fast ( from 0 to 1mg within half a day ) and I have to change water for them twice a day ( once in the morning when i wake up - 10+am, and once at nite at around 10+pm ) I guess when I eventually move them to my tub, the ammonia level will still shoot up ( but maybe not as fast becos of the amount of water - 60litres and tub have BB liao ) Therefore I need some advice on how to proceed from here. My reading & understanding of some of the past threads on this topic, I'm still suppose to monitor the water parameters closely and change water when ammonia, nitrite, nitrate level are high ? Anything else that I have missed out and should have take note ? BTW I've gotten coral chips for my tub liao & feeding for my GFs is about 10-20 hikari pellets 2-3 times per day. |
