i beg to differ.

i think a more accurate way of putting it is, if the pH is not low, adding bicarbonate would increase buffering and would also not affect pH too much. if pH is low like 6.0, i believe even 1gram of bicarb will raise the pH by around 0.5 in a 140L tank.

this is speaking from experience from my 3ft arowana tank.
