Lot 35 Pasir Ris Farmway 2

Where there used to be just one block selling goldfish, ie, "35A", now there are four blocks within the same lot/compound selling goldfish. The selection is huge and makes this one of the best place to shop for goldfish (if you drive.)

How to Go by Public Transport

Location Map

The oldest established shop is block A, carrying a large selection of goldfish from Ranchu, Ryukins to even bubble eyes. Block E is relatively new but carries Ranchus only. Block F, according to a few bros, used to have good ranchus but lately their quality have degraded. Block B is the newest kid on the block that I have not visited before.

Things to do: Drop by No 8 which is located diagonally across the road. An up and coming farm named "Liang Sheng" has average quality goldfish at "farm prices". They reportely bought a farm in China and we may soon buy quality chinese goldfish. Hate their current pricing practice of jacking up the price and then use the "Buy One Get One Free" gimmick. Go to Mainland which is nearby around the corner.

AMK708 - Hup Seng Aquarium

Some bros feel that the prices is a little high in this LFS at AMK Central but it's one LFS that your chances of landing a good catch is high. It is rumored that they are related to "35A" which explains why the goldfish quality is high. tongue.gif

Location Map

The LFS is so huge it occupies the whole of block 708 ah!

Things to do: Small stall in the coffee shop of blk 704 sells nice chinese goreng pisang. A short walking distance away at Blk 722 is a relatively new generic LFS ("Hai Yang") that sometimes have decent goldfish at affordable prices. Drop by Tip Top Curry Puff on the same block and feast away! "S11" at Blk 711 has a western food stall that serve large juicy proportion. So... now you have excuses to visit Hup Seng; for Lunch, Tea Break, and Dinner as well.

====
UPDATE: June-2005 - Hup Seng at AMK 708 has moved to rejoin at Pasir Ris 35A.

"AMK133"

"High-end ranchu", "abit pricey", "One pretty nice but... expensive man", "The price i can't afford to play with" etc are some of the comments on this relatively new LFS.

People still go despite the high asking prices because you can catch almost perfect ranchus at this LFS. biggrin.gif

Location Map

Closed on Sundays.

Things to do: Er.... nothing too interesting around that neighbourhood.

UPDATE: 7-August-2004 - AMK 133 is no longer in business.

RELIABLE SOURCE FOR LIVE DAPHNIA

The listing here are for LFS that sells live Daphnia! You are advised to call ahead to check for availability. The Daphnia are bred in Malaysia and if it was raining a day ago you probably can't get any supply today.

Daphnia is pronounced "boon1" in hokkien... in case you need to speak dialect when you call the LFS.

Thanks bro Jos Nana for this invaluable tip; many bros were hunting high and low for the supply of live daphnia to feed their goldfish fries.

Unconfirmed sources:

- 3 fish shop inside/around the Chong Pang Market in Yishun.

- Lot 36F Pasir Ris Farmway 2

- Bedok North Street 4, Block 89 #01-101, old fcuk-up LFS that sells birds too.

Note: Most LFS operating in neighbourhood wet markets carry daphnia. But you'll have to visit them early in the morning, as usually most would have sold out daphnia by noon.

Blue Aquarium

Located in the Katong eatery area is this LFS that occasionally imports goldfish from Tung Hoi Aquarium of China - Home of "Bruce" the world's longest goldfish.

Location Map

Things to do: Further down the road in the corner coffee shop (at Lor Stangee) a stall sells absolutely fabulous curry puffs to die for. biggrin.gif

Updated on 4 Oct 05 - Blue Aquarium is no longer in business.

SamGoldfish
12, Seletar Farmway

Carries mostly Thai SVs and sometimes TVRs, albeit a little pricey. He also carries other goldfish types like oranda, ryukin, Dragon eye, etc. You may order fishes by pictures and ask Sam to source for you in Thailand. Bottomline is, there is no goldfish that the thais won't do.

Location Map

Things to do: Drop by neighbouring shops like Seaview Aquarium (No.2 Seletar Farmway) for cheaper (but lower quality) buys before adjouring to Thasevi Food for the famous Jln Kayu roti prata. Order a plate of mouth watering mutton ribs to go with your prata, then wash it down with lemon juice.

Imports Thai side-view and top-view Ranchus regularly. You can find high-graded Side View Ranchus (black) but at the pricey end. Operation similar to HOR which has already closed down.

Location Map

Parking a bit inconvenient though.

Things to do: Let me recce further............but since its located between Geylang and Joo Chiat shd be pretty interesting.

This is probably Singapore's one and only goldfish farm. The address is 20 LCK Lane 9A.Name of farm I have no idea, but the owner is Mr Toh Hp96249770. He only speaks mandarin or hokkien.

Enjoy!

Some of the goldfish produced in his farm. A very special long tail ranchu as shown. Some have tails like a tosakin.

He has got very beautiful black ranchus which is selling at attractive pricings. He told me that he sells at wholesale price if you buy in larger quantity. He has 38 ponds many blue tubs at the moment with plenty of room for expansion should market demand increases.

Never knew that goldfish farm still exist in Singapore today. FYI, some of his red/white ranchus and black ranchus are sold in our LFS as Thai imports. What an irony!

Rainbow Pet & Aquarium Centre (财红)
Blk 151, Serangoon North Ave 2, #01-73, S(550151)
Tel: 6287-3988

This is a popular hangout for goldfish hobbyists for its high-quality chinese goldfishes. You can find lots of goldfishes of different varieties here. Prices are slightly on the high side, but sometimes they have offers from which you can get decent fishes at good prices.

Location Map

Things to do: This area is a very popular pet hub. You can find many a few LFS and other pet-related stores nearby. After that, swing by a nearby coffeeshop BEHIND (not the run-down one that you can see from the shop) by the name of "Chang Cheng Nee Wah Eating House (长城美华美食中心)" to try the mouth-watering pork cutlet (or pork cutlet with rice) from the "Escoffier Western Food" stall. You won't regret trying it.
