QUOTE(somebody @ sometime)
Other than renting a pond, any sifu knows what "K" is best to develop Green Water. If 6500K better or 10000K or if 10000K will kill the green water?

It will be informative to anyone who want to try Green Water at least to understand some of the light condition to get the result

i think 6500K more energy efficient as compared to 10000K considering the life span of the bulb, the cost, and electricity used..

i think can try up to 15000K?

not sure about 20000K though..

Could CHRISAMOS provide an update on the 20000K bulb? smile.gif

My PL lamp is 7000 Kelvin, and it's perfectly alright.

As you know, I have two such lamps. I find if I turn on both, the green would intensify very quickly. A 5% seeding would turn mature green within 2 days!

So what I do is turn on both lamps during the first 2 days only. On the 3rd day onwards (till the 7th) I only turn on one lamp... failing which the fishes start gasping for air in the late evening! wink.gif

BTW, if I only use one lamp after changing water, then the green water would mature on the 4th day. Considering the life-span of green water is 7 days.... that only leave my fishes 3 days to enjoy the full benefits of green water. Hence, I want fresh green water to mature, FAST! biggrin.gif

hmm.. what happens if u keep both lamps on for all 7 days? wouldn't that be better besides the higher temperature and energy consumption?

10,000 Kelvin Metal Halide? It'll work for sure. Bro Demekin's MH lamp is only 6500 Kelvin and he ready, steady, pon pi pi leow.

Like ET said, load up the tub with ammonia by overfeeding. If you worry your fishes can't take the high level of ammonia, put only cheap but healthy fishes in it. Once you have cultivate green water from scratch, you can put in your prized fishes after cleaning the virgin tub and seeding a fresh one.

does it do any good if i collect green water from nearby pond and spa my fish there for a week to get the nec " algae vitamin" for colour improvement w/o having to brew the water.

or it do any good if i mix it with my main tank.

anyone try before. found a green pond in a garden. cannot mentioned where as i know it will be dry in no time by weekend

One week is not long enough to see any colour improvement. I believe 2 weeks mimium before you'll start noticing the more vibrant colours. biggrin.gif I have a Ryukin doing his spa for 3 weeks... but the 2nd week in the tub was without any green water as ... long story.. but I basically messed up that tub of green water.

So effectively this fella has been spaing for only 2 weeks and I can tell the red is coming back!!

As for getting green water from a pond. I wouldn't do it unless I know the history of the pond. Are there any disease in it is my main worry.

Mixing clean hygenic green water from a pond into your main tank may not work for a few reasons. For one thing, you'll need a 3 weeks treatment like I mentioned before and your standard aquarium lamp would not be able to sustain the green water for the duration. biggrin.gif

May I know what is the reason you can't cultivate green water? We could arrange to pass some matured and clean green water to you for you to seed your tub and speed up the process. But you'll definitely need a strong lamp.

i wouldn't dare try that.. u won't know what kinda parasites, bacteria that maybe infested in the pond..

as for seeding the green.. hehe.. it also gives chance for cross infection.. your fish may appear healthy, but it could be because it has built up a resistance against that problem, seeding over may cause problems for the fishes in the seeded tub, just be cautious

Hahaha. Allan has been giving his holy green water to his friends helping them to kick start their green water.

He better stop doing that now... or at least tell the receiver about the potential problem! biggrin.gif

hehe.. yeah.. receiver may not have much problems immediately as it is in green spa, but the moment they get stressed.. problems may start appearing laugh.gif

its also a good lesson for the receiver.. if he/she don't change water, the fish may shows u problems tongue.gif
