I'm in NYC and is a Ranchu collector. Only quality Ranchu you will find is from on-line. Try goldfishnet.com, NeoRanchu and Fishsempai. Sometimes the Chinatown fish stores sells baby Ranchu that have promising tail tucks and heads. I was able to pick one such baby Ranchu with square heads and nice tail tuck for about $6 last year from the fish store on Broome Street. Unfortunately he got sick. So don't stop looking. Sometimes you may get lucky.
Curious what type of filters do you all use for your Ranchus? I have Rena XP3, but they give me crystal clear water. |

Dear Stech
Many thanks for your reply, it looks like we all have the same problem. I am going to make a trip to Chinatown and hope for the best, worst case scenario is I get a day looking at fish! I am currently mainly keeping Ryukin, I have various filters, some sponge, some external and some home made. My 'best' filter is a combination of an external filter which runs in combination with a home made trickle to both improve the water quality and take the energy out of the water flow. It makes more of a rainfall effect than a flow. The water quality is great and the fish get O2 rich water. Cheers Paul |

I don't really satisfy with the quality of online fish as well.

Does it make a lot of noise? Fred. |

Hi Everyone, Are there any RG members in the New York area? I am currently keeping Ryukin but am looking to move over into Ranchu. My local shops only occasionally have Ranchu and even when they do the quality is very low. I would love to get some very young fry or even eggs as I really do enjoy bringing on the smaller fish. (I have worked for many years on large salt water fish farm recirculation systems in europe and was responsible for all fry growth). For me the raising of the fish is the best part of keeping fish, but it always better to be raising good quality fish rather than something which will never mature into anything nice. Anyway, thanks to everyone and happy fishkeeping Paul Hi Paul, Ranchu greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia. I've read this book: Fancy Goldfish: The Complete Guide to Care and Collecting. The link is here: http://www.amazon.com/Fancy-Goldfish-Compl...g/dp/0834804484 In that book, there is a Ranchu breeder named Izhak Kroshinsky. According the book, he lives in southeastern part of New York state. Probably you can contact the publisher to find out more about Izhak Kroshinsky. Judging his offsprings by looking at the pictures in the book, I must admit that they are above average quality. Hope my information helps. Thanks. |

Not sure how to post picture so I will try to explain.
I have 'acquired' a supermarket shopping basket which i have suspended above the tank (actually an old bathtub!) In the basket i have put in some bio-balls and on top of this I have placed a fridge salad box into which I have drilled a lot of holes. In the salad tray I have put a whisper bio bag filled with carbon and a couple of sponges from an old filter. The direct stream of water runs onto this, then through the holes and over the bio-balls then into the tank. It is not the handsomest piece of fishkeeping equipment, in fact its ugly!! But it does the job and is in our basement. My wife really does not appreciate it! With regard to noise it is like being next to a small water fountain. Not quiet but you get accustomed to it and it can sort of be regulated by either lifting or lowering in relation to the surface of the main body of water. I like the sound but you wouldnt want it in your bedroom! Hope this helps, i will try and post pics but dont hold your breath. Regards Paul |

Heya, folks!
Goldfishconnection.com has some nice fish, always larger fish, tho. (and nothing Japanese, that I've seen.) I think accouple of the prize winners at the Portland, Oregon Goldfish show were from here. NeoRanchu imported a bunch of baby Japanese Ranchus from 3-4 prestigious breeders last spring, and I got 5. Mita, Oishi, Kashino were some. They started at $50 each, and went up to about $150. I hope he's planning the same thing this year, but I haven't heard from him lately (my hunch is yes, why would he be upgrading his website if the importing of goldfish has been halted due to new regulations?). I don't know of any other way to get Japanese Bloodlines in the US. . . . Is there anyone else who does this in the US???? Fish Sempai had accouple TVR from Thairanchucenter last time I checked. |

You're right.... it has been awhile since he's held an auction. He better get busy . . . some folks will soon be wanting to purchase their show-winners for the up-coming season! (I prefer to groom my young fish into adulthood)

Hello fellow members. I have enjoyed the various TV posts in these forums and decided to get my hands on some TVs. The problem is finding them. They are not very popular here in the states and the only company I found that imports them are not responding to any of my requests for information. Does anyone here know of exporters or a method to get some very nice top views? Thanks!

Hi Paul, First of all, welcome to RG. I am from Brooklyn. I was searching for good quality ranchus for more than 4 months in NYC area. But I have no luck w/ yet especially with a good quality and small one. I went to almost every store. Here is a list of site that have a decent quality of fish but I still don't satisfy with the quality. http://neoranchu.com/ www.goldfishnet.com Importing from oversea is not an option since there is a new rule from gov that restrict importing goldfish. well what can we do? Fred When browsing ebay, i got good news for you living in USA. Good TVR auction in ebay. Check this out : http://cgi.ebay.com/4-5-Live-Pure-Japanese...1QQcmdZViewItem Regards |
