I have kept them with goldfish and had plants in the tank for them to hide in. They eat algae or uneaten food in the tank. Desirable temperature should be around 74F. Make sure whatever tank you put them in is cycled since they do not tolerate any ammonia. They breed very easily and you will see the females with eggs that are green or yellow in their bellies. They usually hatch in 21 days. Be careful with filters sinc they are easily sucked up, so I used to put a piece of foam on my intake tubes to keep the shrimp for being sucked up.

you need soft water and little pollutants like NO3, no NO2 at all, at least 20 litre tank (they massively breed), best with a sponge filter and in a flat tank, with more eating area...

better not so much plant, or you will need special fertilization, they could be sensible to iron ad copper...
