Uk Keeper's Fish, A bit about my fancy fish Options

Hi All From the UK!!

I wanted to write a bit about my fish and get some advice from you guys on here.
I have kept fish for a long time, but am just now getting into Fancy Goldfish.
In the UK it is very very hard to find high quality / show quality Goldfish for sale.

After much searching I found an amazing guy who imports from Japan, China and now Thailand. He only stocks very high quality fish. The company is called Star Fisheries (for any UK users who wanted to know).

So 2 weeks ago I bought 1 Red and White Ryukin, 1 Orange Oranda and 1 Orange Ranchu. They live in a 180 litre aquarium with 8 comets. I filter the tank with an external canister filter, I use LED lighting and heat the water to 70-75f. I am feeding them pellets and brine shrimp 3 times per day. I perform a 100% water change once per week.

I am keen to know if you guys think this is a good regime for encouraging maximum growth?

I hope to remove the comets over time and maybe add a couple more Orandas instead. what are your thoughts?

Also does anyone know how to buy saki Hikari (red bag) in the UK? Or anywhere internationally that will ship it to me?

why don't you join the uk goldfish society,that's where your show quality fish are ,and will not be over priced like * Fisheries

i am a goldfish hobbiest in the UK.. I keep Ryukin and Globe Eyes plus a few comets


as mentioned by others you should join the GSGB (Goldfish Society if Great Britain) its only £15. per year... Andy at Star Fisheries is a member and active supporter of the Society.

I would think that the oranda and ryukin may have difficulty competing for food with the comets as the latter are muck quicker and more agile. The twin tails may be happier in a seperate tank.

Also you may be a little over-stocked with that number of fish in the tank...i have a 180 litre tank with only 3x 6 inch fish in it. I find lower stock levels give me more flexibility with water changes etc....

Thanks Robert and Timmins for your replies, comments and advice.
I have now got the Comets re-homed, and now just keep my Ryukin, Orandas, Lionheads and Ranchu.
I am keeping up with my 100% water changes as I really like to remove all growth inhibiting hormones and chemicals from the water regularly. I may join the goldfish society, but over the years I have joined so many societies and found they offer very little real benefit. I will def look into this one though, as I am always open to new perspectives.

I will be popping along to the Star fisheries open day this weekend, to see what is on offer.

I am also going to be starting a new feeding regime, to see what effects it has on colour and growth.
