I think bro Ken is quite abit experienced as he keep ryukins. For me ryukins are of recent interest, i wouldn't be able to tell what kind of ryukins they are but can make an effort in commenting.

Both ryukins look similar in structure...could be from the same spawn.
I like their hump its quite dramatic....or raised....
Scales im not sure on that....hav someone opinion on that
But i dont like the tail....doent look healty coz its on erect....could be just stressed.
and i find the tail could have been a lil more longer.....personal liking.


Do tell us the size of the fish......and if u want prise to..... )

The 'red eyed' ryukins are actually albino ryukins. Australia use to have albino moors (light gold body with red telescope eyes) - I think they called them siamese dolls.

I have seen albino ryukins on websites from China before however am not sure whether the lineage was back-breed from telescopes or forward breed from normal ryukins. A word of warning thought - siamese dolls were notorious for being a weak breed.

Personally, I would pay a good price for them but in this instance, confirmation to breed standard is low - the only uniqueness is that they are albino and seldom seen. Not of breeding stock interest for me unfortunately. I am also happy to release some babies when I get round to breeding my stuff from thai ranchu centre - but only to good homes! )

Aiyah not taking it the wrong way at all - just better to comment on Goldfish Academy then here. That way we are pegged against the international standard Just didn't want to start this whole thread in the wrong area of the forum about commenting on fishes that's all - put it where everyone else can see

Anyways - back to goldfish - saw some AAA+ black ranchus at StKilda Aquarium today. Expensive - but good (from my amateur eye).

Went to Keysborough Aquarium yesterday. Saw a tank full of Ryukins, did not like any of them though.
I think they were $75 for large(~15cm) ones and $55 for the medium(~10cm) ones... Quite pricey.

The goldfish there are not very healthy leh... Saw a few bellies pointing upwards. :sad
1 was actually left in the filter area to die, maybe it's the departure lounge...

Thanks for the tip about St. Kilda, will check it out today. Yes, they sell pricey fish. I bought a small black ranchu (~ 5 cm) from them last time for about $30.

Hi all,

Bought a Ryukin from New Life in Richmond. $25, 8cm from head to tail.
There are still about 20 of these when I was there yesterday. Anyone interested, pls hurry up.

Thank you to the tip-off, I can now report that New Life indeed does have a tank of Sakura Ryukins at $25. Unfortunately I did not buy any, don't have much space left and would rather keep it for top grade stuff if I find any (GOD FORBID!) )
New Life also has a tank of pearscales, but they don't look as 'round' as the stuff you get from Ipoh & I have given up trying to get a straight answer from the owner. He's abit of a 'fast car' salesman.
Considering I was sticky beaking around, I also went to Subscape and can confirm that none of the $120 Utsuri Domo Ryukins have been sold yet They also have a tank of Sakura ryukins at a 10% premium (although quality looks the same). I think adslman got all the nices ones!

I only bought 1 Ryukin that I think has even colour and no black markings on the fins and tail.
Not a bad buy in my opinion.

There were too many in the tank. I was a bit dizzy after checking the others out. More patience and training I guess.

You're right. I tried to keep the number of golfish down in my tank too.
I just gave 3 little ones that I had since Jan '06 to a friend yesterday.
Now I have 6 in a 200L tank. To some, this is still overcrowded, right?

Yeah i think thats too crowded.....80L-100L / fish sounds good....and i have seen my oranda grow faster if more space & good water param are present.

Anyway do any of you guys have outdoor setups, considering that melb has much better climate than brissy. Its just that summer is not far off.....and i have outdoor setup (in my balcony) just concerned abt the temperature.....as this would be my 1st summer.

I use to have outdoor setups (for breeding). The main thing you have to remember about outdoor setups is not just the temperature the water could potentially reach. You need to remember fluctuation is a large problem too. Because of that, you would find that the best advise you can get regarding outdoor setups is the VOLUME of water. The Bigger the Better! The next important thing is the DEPTH of the water. Both of these ensure slow and minimal fluctuations of temperature. Example the same 200L in a 4 foot deep pond or tub would change temperature less and slower. However 200L in a 1 foot deep (large surface area) will very quickly change temperature. In fact, a 4 foot deep pond is meant to be able to sustain water in it's liquid state (during winter) so only the top freezes over.
And if you want to get 'high tech' about the situation, there are lots of information about what goldfish farms do so that the ponds are easy to clean etc etc... But this is above and beyond keeping the fish happy...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Though its not summer yet...but still on the way.....maybe i'll try to give some shade to the outdoor tub and try to reduce direct sunlight contact. Will keep you posted when summer comes......our else i have to move my fishes indoor and i dont have any indoor setup...... have to get one.

Also happy to report good quality orandas spotted at both the above aquariums!

Saw any LionHead? My favourite lionhead has a hole in the head for 2 weeks now. Looks like it is recovering and the hole might be getting smaller. Not sure. :sad
