i only snip my ranchu less than 5 mm away at the tail, this one really eye opener.....

Trimming of fins including tail is a common practice among aro keepers... But I have never seen one that cut until so deep.... wow.. shiok.gif

i once snip my 2 months old ranchu tail (because it was jointed, instead of split end). Within days, the tail jointed again. Anyone have better idea?

just some unsightly growth.

consulted one thai seller & one local LHS at Neo Tiew before, they said no problem and it is quite common to snip it.
this forum also mentioned that the growth will return after snipping.

Just done it two days back. the fish don't seem stress at all and no bleeding also.
Overall quite happy with the end result; add melafix in any case and fish swimming fine since.

Did you by any chance took pics of the before and after operation? It would be nice to compare them a month later. My own experience in snipping was the defective anal fin grew back EXACTLY like it was. It was a waste of my time and unnecessary stress for the poor fish. But what you did was trimmed(?) the tails - the result might be different from my experience where I cut the whole anal fin off.

never take any picture. also don;t dare to snip too much as quite close to the harden area. will see if it does grow back...

got to tackle another problem at hand.... mad.gif
just spotted a couple of tiny little crawlers snail in sump again. look like some eggs did hatch. got to concoct another round of poison and conduct mobilisation exe for sump again....shit i thought i got rid of them after one week. mad.gif
