Behaviour Of Goldfish Options

I haven't been able to find info of this online, so I am asking if any bro has experience in this.

I do have one ranchu which likes to rest in one corner of tank. It has been known to me that if a fish hides in one corner of tank, it could either be gill problem or internal bacteria infection. This fish however, does not display any obvious symptoms of gill flukes nor internal bateria. In fact, whenever I feed, it will be the first one to dart for food, like piranha sensing meat or something. Nonetheless, I went ahead to treat this fish for gill flukes for 3 weeks. The fish behave the same way. So I switched to Interpet #9 treatment (for Internal bacteria) for another 2 weeks. Seeing no change to its behaviour, I gave up treatment and leave it as it is. Another thing to mention about this fish is, it grows at the fastest rate among all my ranchus. I supposed that, whenever it is lurking in one corner of the tank, it's been resting or sleeping.

So, other than that fact that it does not glide through water like all my other fishes, it seems to me that this fish is doing well.

Does any bros here who owns healthy goldfish (not sick hor) that behaves in similar way? Is it alright that a fish possess a different behaviour from its friends?

I do not think you have a problem,since your water parameters are within normal range without other fish exhibiting similar behaviour.The problem is HIM not you,find him a girlfriend and try to stir his interest if not probably you just have to live with his anti -social behaviour.

The good news is you're not alone.

I too have red/white chinese ranchu that behaves like you described. He only springs to life when there's food, for which he becomes quite aggressive, pushing and shoving others away to get his share. After that he would just goes back to resting in his preferred corner (right at the inlet of my IOS's underflow intake) of the tank. I know he's a healthy ranchu.

The bad news is there's nothing I could do to "cure" its unusual behaviour. One thing for sure, however and this is unlike your ranchu, mine is a confirmed stunted ranchu. Sigh.

I used to have a pair of 6 inch beautiful Thai black ranchu.One of them developed exactly the symptoms you described,resting in the place where HB described ie under the water outlet (mine overhead filter).
The behaviour lasted for abt 2 months until it slowly had difficulty swimming upwards.Suspecting swim bladder, I isolated it and treated with Interpet but was unable to recover after 1 month.Seeing that it was suffering and losing weight (scarce feeding),it was put to sleep.
Last month I noticed the 2nd black Ranchu started to develop the symptom and I quickly transferred it to a pond I rented.I did not visit it but was told that it had just died.

The ranchu I am talking about is orange in colour. Colour does not affect a fish's behaviour or well-being. It is already like this when I first bought it. Even after a long QT and treating it for 2 diseases as I described earlier, it's behaviour doesn't change at all.

From your description of your fishes, I suspect your blackies to be suffering from gill flukes. Please cure the whole tank of fishes for gill fluke ASAP as it might have infected your other fishes already.

My case is really quite scarce... But if your fish DEVELOPED an abnormal behaviour, very high chances it is suffering from some diseases.

Be careful because your fish could be sick. Did you try treating it for Gill disease?

For this one that I own, I treated it for over 1 month. And still no change to its pattern.

I think all my 4 ranchus are sick.Recently all very restless leh.Shd i mov all to a 2 ft hospital tank or what?Any kind soul pls help.Thanks.

Off hand like that cannot help you leh.

It would be better if you check up the "Ailments and Treatments" sub-forum for the symptoms that your fishes are displaying now. If cannot find, then post a new thread with the detailed description of the symptoms in that sub-forum.
