Does Green Water Need Salt? Options

Hi Hi, my Question is.... do we need to add salt after a water change for green water tank?

Salt will only come to good use when your fish is sick.

For green water, simply de-chlorinated water will do.

Your initial question on whether to add salt to green water implies you add salt to clear water.

Why?

Salt is used mainly as a illness treatment, and sometimes added (dosage unknown to me) to temporarily relief ammonia spike.

It is NOT a preventive measure and prolong use is likely to cause immunity.

yr fish is properly probably suffering cos of the ammonia spike during yr green water brewing process. the next water change, it should be better , if it continue take the fish out of green water and to hospital tank to add salt

Its not compulsory but i put some very small amt of salt after green water change. Abt 0.01% only. Yes, it is impt to use baking soda (NOT baking powder) if yr tap water is soft.

Ranchu with blood streaks in fins usually implies theres ammonia present in yr green water. It can be normal symptom for GFs with white/transparent colored fins. Test for ammonia for further confirmation. If theres ammonia, yr tub is overloaded with GFs and u hv to feed less or change water more frequently.

erm...... the ranchu with blood streak, is my dad's fishes..... he kept 6, 4-5 inches ranchu in a 4 ft, hence that ranchu fall sick, than i transfer him to the green water, hopefully he will heal and gain from the green water. if he still don't heal, than i gotta treat him in a separate tank....

HB, i think i understand ur point, don used too often till the fishes get used to it, and the salt like no used to the goldfish. rite?

Baking soda is not so much for the water hardness. It is to act as pH buffer.

There r 2 types of hardness. GH and KH. The hardness i refer to in previous msg is KH .

One need KH (carbonate hardness) to buffer PH. And the KH comes from the baking soda.
