I hate throwing a bucket of cold water but here it goes.
If a product legitimately will reduce NO3 with no harmful by-products for our goldfish setup, you can bet your life savings that it will be a standard, compulsory item for everyone. It's really as simple as that. That said, I suggest you read up about the nitrogen cycle to better equip yourself to fight against marketing gimmicks. I only have 3 words for the best bio-filtration for goldfish - Sponge, sponge and sponge. |

bluff one... I am using bio home and it doesn't do what it says....
somehow maybe related to the kind of fish we keep. also you need really slow flow rate for nitrate removal. So far even denitrator works very slowly. Plants are more effective but the problem is goldfish will eat them. green water offers a good solution but you can't see the fish. so which one??? pros and cons ... |

Almost all filtration media will reduce no3. question is the rate. AFAIK, none of the "normal" media (biohome, angel blah blah blah) reduce no3 fast enough to make a difference.
i actually throw away a few kilos of biohome and switch to normal sponge filter. |

Just wondering since I so free now
If we have a tank with GFs ( not overloaded ) in which the water will flow out to a tank with alot of duck weed ( + 24 Hrs light and maybe fertilizers ) then have another pump to pump the water back. Will that help ? Below is a pic of the idea |

Below is a pic of the idea it might work. but dun turn on 24 hours. give the plants time to sleep. another kind of plant you want to try is cabomba.. grow quite fast and need low lights. |

If they reduce NO3 I will gladly pay $500 per kg.To borrow a quote from a fellow forumer, "do not believe these kind of fairy tales!".This reflects the sad state of many LFS owners/staff.Dont know the difference bet. nitrite and nitrate. Its like a stockbroker who doesnt know diff. between blue chips and potato chips. OK.Both are housing medias for bacteria. They create space for bacteria to thrive. Most rings made of ceramic whereas Biohome from sinster glass. You can get ceramics for less than 10 bucks a pack but biohome claims to house much more bacterias therefore the higher asking price.I have one pack of biohome. It CLAIMS to be able to treat tonnes of water due to the many bacterias it can house therefore not taking up space in your filter. Is it better?I dont know.My biofilter is working fine and it could have jolly well worked with ceramics in the first place. Speaking of "in the first place",these might not be even needed so long as there are places for the bacteria to thrive eg if you have sandbed, and they live evrywhere...your glass tank,decors,plants,wool,carbon,rocks,sponge,pumps.... |
