How Do Goldfish Get Stunt? Options

Hi all
My present tank got 3 goldfish abt 2" to 3" if i mix with a few less than a inch goldfish will the small one get stunt? Any way how do goldfish get stunt? anyone can advice?

my tank is a 2ft by 1.5 ft tank. I am considering of getting 2 more goldfish but incase that they are small then the present gang might cause the new goldfish to stunt or not.Just have this consideration in mind and see what others have to say on this issue. Pls advice.

Your question regarding the causes of stunted encompass a string of multifactorial aetiologies which broadly can be summarized by the following
1)environmental:space,all water parameters

2)nutritional:type ,frequency etc

3)parasitic infestation a)worm
b)crustacean(argulus,)
c)protozoa

4)infectious diseases a)bacteria
b)fungi
c)viral

All the above can cause stunted growth in one way or another,so keep in mind

Thanks for your reply. I am feeding my goldfish with 1 time frozen bloodworm and 2 times of chroma a day. I do 50% water change half a week. If at this point of tme injecting a few more smaller then 2 inch fishes will these new fishes be stunt?

Assuming the height of your tank is 1.5 ft,the volume of water is about 100 litres.
I would recommend at least 80l per fish,so for your tank I would recommend that you keep only 1 , or 2 at the very most.

Try to refrain from adding.Rather you should think of up grading to a bigger tank if you intend to keep more be it smaller or bigger fish as your present tank is way insufficient to support a healthy environment .The maintenance would be too over whelming and any further improvement of your fish be it growth,finishing or otherwise would be severely compromised.

Just to add somemore, you seem to be repeatly asking whether new fishes will get stunt. GFs are not like fishes such as Discus whereby new smaller fishes tend to be bullied by the older one, resulted in malnutrition.
Bear in mind that by adding more fishes in a limited space, water quality will deteriote fast and the fishes including the old one will all suffer....

A bit free at the moment so may I comment on the statement:
Bloodworms,tubifex,live prawns etc and Chroma are high protein diets which fouls up the water at a higher rate.No need to feed high protein unless young fish such as fries.Include some roughage in their diets such as peas,duckweed or wheat germ,it is better for their digestive system and easier on the water.Feeding solely on pellets such as Hikari Lionhead (the most popular food in this forum) is also fine as they are produced with the balanced diet idea in mind.

It is better to change water 100% every week than 50% twice a week.Though the end result may seem the same,your fishes will spend more time in 'cleaner' water when you do the former.And,better to stress them once rather than twice a week.

These diets are not mandatory,if you are interested for peas just get those frozen ones from Supermarket ('Watties' is a good brand),thaw and de-shell them before you feed and for wheat germ you can buy 'Hikari' Wheat Germ (the one with the Koi picture) or Superfin 'Natural Maintenance' (blue colour).
