Dragon Eye Goldfish Growth, 5 month to reach 3.5" and stop growing Options

Anyway, I have the following goldfish for almost 8 months already, this fish seem to stop growing when it reach 3.5inch after 5 month. I got it when it was really young, heard it was about 1 month old when I I got it.

So my question is, how big will a typical dragon eye goldfish grow?

i hav seen before d biggest is about 7-8 inches.....it is really beautiful and d size is huge.....

Do provide the readers here more info on your keeping method and tank size. Dragon eyes can grow very fast and large in size. 8" is common for a year old fish.

Will try to borrow a digi cam and take another few shots.
I suppose the head look weird because of the angle of shot.

OK, here is some info on its living condition.
1. Outdoor fibre tub of about 32 Gallon.
2. Tub contains :
2 X Calico Butterfly. Both size about 4.5"
2 X Crown Pearscale. size 5" and 3.5"
2 X Bubble Eyes. Both size 3.5"
4 X Ranchu. Size. 1X3", 2 X 2.5", 1X 2"
3. Water has been clear for two years until it turns green about 1 months ago. Reason is unclear yet.
4. Home made upflow filter. Has been using it for two years.
5. Feed twice a day. Morning and evening.
6. Food are those cheap 1kg for 5 dollar floating round pallet.
7. Tub is expose to sun with 20% covered.

Not sure if any of the above is affecting its growth.

Hahaha .... the tub look spacious when I bought them when they are small. Also feel it is too small liao. Will transfer the ranchus into another tub soon.

I set up another tub (lets call this tub2) in Aug 2004. The water turn clear after about 8 weeks. And this remain clear for about 4 weeks until a period of continuous heavy rain. Tub2 remain green since then.

Although Tub2 turn green due to heavy rain, Tub1 remains clear at that time. I suppose the algae on the tub wall and bottom was so thick that it helped to keep it clear. To confirm this, so 1 month ago, I decided to do an experiment by transfering some green water from Tub2 to Tub1 and see if Tub1 will clear it. Unfortunately, it turn out the be a big mistake. I guess the green water from Tub2 plus those heavy rains during the last month, cause Tub1 to be green.
The above are just what I think. The rain may not be the cause. All the fishes look healthy and active though.

BTW, the fish in the pic is red and white in colour.

32gallons (120 litres) for 10 fishes.Way,way overcrowded.If the fish had been in this environment for the last 5 months,chances are already stunted and will not grow further.
In this forum we recommend at least 80litres per fish,so by keeping just 2 in that tub is already overcrowded in that sense.
Reduce your stocking level,and check nitrate levels periodically (keep it below 50ppm) as far as fish growth is concerned.

Oooops .... calculation mistake. The correct volume of the tub is 236 litres.
Still way overstock even with this figure.

It is a filtered tank (other than green water), now can call it Bio-green liao.

Anyway, 10 fishes of around 4"+, giving them 10G per fish, you will still need a 100G tub. Right now 236L or around 60 gal, you have to find a way to remove some of them. Still up to you. U want to grow them or just to see.

Actually I prefer the water to be clear so I can enjoy watching the fishes. Now that it is green, I shall console myself that the fish will probably grow better in green water.

Fish that I like, hopefully will grow, fish that don't interest me anymore, just keep it alive and healthy and hope it don't grow to take up the space of other fish. ---> Typical human being.

Seem like must really restrict myself in my purchase liao. Tub2 will be crowded soon. How do you guys handle such space problems?

Tried snapping a pic of this fish using a Nokia handphone. Just wana show the head. The colour shown is not a good representation of the colour though.

did your tub of fish got fin rot or sudden death of fish before ? The entire outer rim of the tail seems weird. Sign of problem probably within the past 2 mths.

There was a case of fin rot somewhere in August 04 after I introduce 2 panda from the neighbourhood LFS without quarantine. Those two panda did not survive then. Did a 0.3% salt treatment so resolve the problem. Your eyes is sharp. Pei Fu.

erm...don't need to be a rocket scientist to notice the jagged edges at the tail portion.
