Green Peas And It Supposedly Good Effects Options

Are you guys still feeding your goldfish with green peas? Is there any special reasons for doing that?

if kept in green water, i dun think green peas are necessary....

can try Hikari Wheat Germ, i used that to substitute green peas for by blackies kept in filtered water...not bad...

i was talking to a guy from vermilion this afternoon and he said that neither ozeki nor vermilion guys feed green peas. he also dunno where this practice came from, and liken it to feeding tofu! except that green peas was safe while tofu isn't...

andy, any special effects? green peas seem to act as roughage for my goldfish for their poos, so instead of 'smokey trail' i get the chunckier kind.

oh man i really want to see how this practice comes about. i remember many advices in AF about feeding green peas to combat internal bacteria.

I'm still feeding green peas regularly to my fishes in clear water. Seeing them pass out chunky green poos make it worth while. the fishes are noticably more active for the following days.

I recall the first time I read about feeding green peas was at an American goldfish forum. The advice was to try feeding goldfish with early stages of SB disease to help them purge stuffs in their tummy. I documented how my Ryukin seemingly recovered from SB after feeding it peas. Since then I hang on to this practice.

No harm whatsoever at all.

I don't see a need to feed peas to fishes kept in green water though; tiny weeny algae is even better.

Tofu? Doesn't it turn bad quickly in water?

two reasons i can think of the fish being more active could be peas aren't as filling? fish more hungry/active as a result?

or could it be green pea poo doesn't produce as much ammonia, better water, and thus more active?

or maybe it boils down to having a varid diet like humans need? EAT YOUR GREENS

Goosh... compared to the size of bloodworms, I tend to think peas are a lot more filling.

But I like the cleaner water theory; I usually see stupid ones eat green poos as if they're fresh, meshed peas.

hmm, i think most of us here have experienced the fish having better digestion. i am kinda relieved that the practice has some documented use.

no idea how they use it, but i remember reading from the marine section over at af.com recommending garlic as a means of medication

I am also one of those that consistently feed peas to my goldfish.

The first time I fed my goldfish peas and they didn't die, so i remember what some dead wise man said "What doesn't kill you, just makes you stronger!" Nah just joking.

I believe that it would improve the goldfish diet. Its diet is suppose to include some greens, so since i can't provide fresh algea, I give them peas and roman lettuce and algae waffer as substitute. Like CyberET said everyone needs thier balance diet

Anyway, does anyone notice this. One of my fish sometimes gets alittle unbalance, something like SB problem but less serious. After feeding it a couple peas it immediately recovers. I assume that the peas act as a sort of ballast like those in a ship. Once it intake a number of peas, the peas which is denser keep the fish upright.
