Think I should start another post here to continue my previous thread since we are discussing about koi.

Pond Filteration

I'm now considering re-designing the pond to 12ft(L) x 4ft(W) x 3ft(H) with a trickle filteration system of 9ft(L) x 2ft(W) X 2ft(H). Considering this re-design, is it suitable for 9 kois? unsure.gif

I have more questions in my mind but would like to find out if this size of pond is sufficient before I ask for more advice. Sorry, I'm new to koi. blush.gif So bros that are experienced, please bear with me. Thanks.

For serious koi keeper, 1 tonne of water per fish and filtration 1/3 (33%) of pond water volume.

You have 4 tonnes pond water and 1 tonne filtration. What do you think?

IMO if its average koi for fengshui purpose its OK if you are really serious grooming them to 80cm may be its inadequate.

What do you mean by trickle filter for koi?The 'in thing' now seems to be 'Bakki shower' using 'bacteria house'.Its a much simpler setup.Drop by Max Koi farm this weekend and look see look see.

Hope that helps.

Trickle Filter? Saw that at koi.com.my and seems to be the best so far. As for 'Bakki Shower', is there any info from the web?

If pond size not ideal enough, what will happen to the koi? Besides growing to its fullest in term of size, will that affect their pattern, colour, health, etc.?

Can I know where is Max Koi as well? Thanks.

Simply do a search for 'bakki shower' this is the first one found:

http://www.makc.com/bakki.pdf#search='...i%20shower'

Max koi website - www.maxkoifarm.com
There are also those mechanical filtration available eg 'Nexus'.

Shop around for the different types of filtration available before committing, consider these two other options listed which is more space saving before creating your own.

If you visit Max Koi ask around for "Ah Seng",a very friendly employee of his and shd be able to answer most of your queries.

Yo cpiw, thanks for the info. 'Bakki shower' seems to be the improved version of trickle filter with outstanding 'bacteria house'. Read a lot about the system these 2 days. Sounds very good to me. good_very.gif The only downside is the size of the filter. Don't know can conceal or not?

Will have a look at Max Koi one of these days.
