Many year back. one guy teach me how to difference goldfish M/F, by anal fin. Single one is male and double one female. It look like quite accurate at first, but as time passes-by it become inaccurate. I think is because the DNA changes. I would say it is not a deform. |

In many competion, goldfish is automatically disqualified if it only has one anal fin. I suppose that's becoz it's considered a defected fish. To me, single or double anal fins are fine so long as they are not deformed. It bothers me a lot to see a goldfish with crooked anal fin. I'd rather have a goldfish with one perfect anal fin. |

Got library also what... How the hell you get such silly notion that sex of a goldfish can be determined by the number of anal fins? If the claim is correct, most goldfish are females leow!!! |

I would hesitate to breed a crooked anal fin fish, but would consider a single anal fin fish. Of course other attributes would have to be outstanding. |

Anyone has experience before? I once (and only once) operated on the anal fin of a ranchu (that I still have with me) becoz it was crooked. It grew back alright. The problem is it grew back exactly the same crooked way like before. The poor fish went through the agony for nothing! |
