Maybe in a controlled manner. But I would think genetic is till the ultimum factor. That's why there can only be a few show grade "AAA" black Ranchu.

Agree.

KokiBali,
Also, try not using any activated carbon and zeolite. I heard they are bad for goldfish and coloration. Mechanical and biological filtration is still the best. Too much salt can also be bad. Add minimum if you really need. yes.gif

cry.gif So sad, my blackie died last night. I don't know exactly what caused it, it looked like white spot and loss appetite. Medication has been given since last week, but the fish condition was getting worse and worse. It didn't swim and eat, just laid still at the bottom of the tank. I saw a thin green poo when it died. death.gif

KokiBali,
Sad to hear the demise of your favourite blackie sad.gif I have the same experience like you before, new fish just perish within the transistion critical period, and without a good reason. Found a few reasons:-
1) Problem from the source (most likely). Fish already not doing well and with this change in conditions would aggrevate and cause the death.
2) Something very wrong with your setup, check your water parameters.
3) Something not right about the feeds. From what you describe, seems there is a constipation.

Moderator,
Is there a previous discussion threads on "How to select a Healthy goldfish". If not, let's start one.

No challenge on selection of health fish. biggrin.gif

The challenge is on how to keep healthy fish through QT period and keeping it healthy for the rest of its time! No matter how healthy the fish may look, there are tonnes of disease awaiting outbreak.

A discussion on how to QT healthy fish can be found here.

Thanks, Bros.

The fish looked alright for the first 2 days, then it started to rub its body to the tank. I saw some tiny white spots on tail, so I gave it anti white spot medicine. The white spots disappeared, but 1-2 days later it came again and the fish did not eat until it died.

Can frozen bloodworm cause constipation? My brother said that maybe the fish was stressed of being lonely in tank. Is it true?

Ya, maybe you seperated it from its lover, heartbreak and end its life hysterical.gif goldfish only knows how to eat and shit, don't think they would feel lonely. tongue.gif

Fish should be less stress when kept alone, this is the optimum and best way of grooming. You have the right way and I don't think that's the problem.

Looks like there could be some internal problem with your goldfish (e.g. gill flukes/parasits, internal parasites, breakdown of organs...) that results in breakdown in immunity (results of white spots, but don't think that kill your fish). Actual cause of death will need a post mortem. sad.gif
