Anyone know where I can get Hikari online? And does it have an expiry date? Thanks!

I don't know any online store but I do know the pellets has expiry date printed on the packaging.

BTW, the 1st two digits represent the year, so "0502" means the the expiry date is Feburary 2005 instead of May 2002. There's some confusion over this matter because here in Singapore we typically interpret date format as the latter. smile.gif

Forgot to add that I feed 1x a week some oranges or tangerines for Vitamin C. Sometimes zucchini too. When in season, I feed raspberries or strawberries also for Vitamin C.

My fish will eat anything, except Pizza! tongue.gif

How do you feed them oranges? In juice form or just the pulp? I have lots of left-over manadarin orange from chinese new year and eager to share them with my goldies. faint

I peel the white stuff off as much as possible for each segment. I then break into small pieces based on the size of the goldfish. My large 8 inchers can eat half a slice, for the small guys I break it up. If you have koi, you can toss the whole peeled orange in and watch them have fun. Like koi soccer.

After they are done eating, I pick out any white membrane left on the bottom.

If your fish don't eat them at first, they will. Just leave it there and when one starts to eat it, the others will follow. Fresh Vitamin C is very good for goldfish.

Vitamin C is also good antibiotic, feed oranges when your fish are sick too.

The Hikari Lionhead pellets we all love is this one. Strangely, the online store asked for US$21.85 for the 350g pack when it only costs us US$5.00 in Singapore! I can't understand why it costs 4 times more! A mis-quote, perhaps? To further confuse me... the Japan Ranchu Lord (JRL) is US$13.25. This compares well to US$10 that we pay for in Singapore! Given this light, I frankly suggest you shop around for other stores to buy the Hikari pellets. It's good but it's NOT that great at that kind of price. Alternatively, just go for the JRL - the choice of many japanese ranchu breeders.

While you're shopping at this famous store (sorry I forgot about it yesterday), you might want to order this book. It has many beautiful photos of all kinds of goldfish and is a treasured book by those who own a copy. It's no longer in print and hard to come by in Singapore. sad.gif

Finally, there's this DVD produced by Tung Hoi (famous breeder in China, and home of "Bruce" the longest oranda in the world) that may be good for newbies.... It's available in Singapore for just US$17.65.

Oh yeah, I see it sells the Ammonia Alert meter too. (We pay US$7.65 in Singapore.)

I would like to add the Japanese Medi "SUPER" Gold in a yellow packaging that ET mentioned above is the preferred sinking type. The standard non-super in red packaging is floating type.

Come to think about it, can you get Hikari Oranda Gold in UAE? It's suppose to be the same as Hikari Lionhead except it's floating type.

I was actually shocked by these prices, but maybe it's worth a try since this stuff isn't sold here. Unfortunately, no store here deals with any Hikari products! Tetra and JBL only, other brands are very very rare! sad.gif

I'm going to get the DVD [excited for that!] and the Ammonia alert [thanks for pointing it out!]. As for food, I'll try to get Hikari Lionhead and ShoGold.

I'd love to get the book too but....too expensive!! $46! I wonder how much shipping will be... sad.gif

I will make sure to search online one more time, maybe I'll find a cheaper site because this is too much to spend on things that are available in stores for half the price! If I can't find any then I'll deal with this...smile.gif

Hmm...You're probably right. Have you tried them? Or anyone else tried Tetra and saw if it's actually good or not?

Then you know what, I might give it a shot and if it doesn't work I'll do the internet order [although I might order the ammonia test now as this is important]. I'll search for good small orandas or crowned pearlscales and will make a tub for them and see if I can have them grow in several months!
