High Ph Lvl In Terracotta Pot, PH Options

Does anybody know about/experienced keeping goldies in a terracota pot. I hav one wit one ranchu in it...it was running smooth until like 21days....my ph was always around 8, ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm but strangly i dont register nitrAte on my test kit yet ...not sure why? Anyways lately my ph level goes high up 8.8, yesterday i had a total water change (noticed alot of alge, turned the water green) with ph back to 7.8 but this morning 1st i checked the ph and its back to 8.8 dont know why i dont have anything in my tank except gravel. Now im forced to put my kider in a bucket of water until i get a fix to this problem or wait for my second tank to get cycled at moment it been running for 16days n has nitrite lvl of 4 ppm.

In all this ph level drama my fish kiders tail (small part on RH side) had split n curled, wat should do in this case....?

These are the telltale signs of green water parameters.It is perfectly normal for green water to register pH of 8 to 9 during the day.

Readings are OK and probably has nothing to do with terracotta pots.

Thanks CP for that, yeah i think your right that could be greenwater related. though the water is clear only turns green when i disturb the gravel.

Can this high PH reaching up to 9 during the day compaired to cool nights....can this harm my fish?

The water is CLEAR only turn GREEN when I disturb the gravel ??? oops, that's not green water.

The algae bloom on the pebbles help to consume the NO3, that's why you don't detect them.
As for your pH escalation, there could be some chemical leaching from your pottery. Not sure anybody has any experience of using the pottery here. Maybe the protective coating has eroded resulting in strong buffering from the internal material

Thanks gokhs, matrix na cp....it does help me diagnose this strange problem.

as gokhs says NO3 is consumed by algae bloom on the gravel makes sense to y i didnt register any NO3 and comments on if any chemical leak coz high PH could be true, when i hand a total waterchange i noticed alot of oil substance floating on top of the water, could be the protective coating in terracotta pot...usualy not noticeable when water is not disturbed

Anyway guys i have totally abandoned that terracotta setup....though one think i liked about it was that is use to keep my water temp cool as we get alot of sun downunder here. mayb in the future i'll try a terracotta setup again.....but thats a far off thing.
