For a long time I wondered what this type of Oranda was as I've seen pics of them in books but they're labeled as just Calico Oranda with no further information, yesterday after a lot of searching I came across a site that breeds them and here's some pictures.

Obviously they are top view and it's interesting how their bodies look almost like Jikin/Wakin from the sides in many of them and the wen looks very unique and a bit similar to TVR. They're really stunning!

Would really love to keep a pair one day...

Here's some young ones from the Japanese Bidders auction site, the color is incredible!!! Personally I never seen this color before.

Orandas are top view? rusure.gif Maybe only the way they're photographed suggests they'retop view but they're also great to see from sideview, although I can see the wen is very similar to TVR, their bodies are alot slimmer & the tails are also more spread out. Very nice from top or side biggrin.gif

I believe in Japan they are appreciated from the top, pls correct me though if I'm wrong. Esp how the characteristics of the fish [head, tail, body] reflect the top-view standards more from what I could see.

But I agree with you though, they're great from the side as well. ;) Hopefully someone that knows more about them could let us know, all the text in Japanese so I'm just assuming here.

There are some very deep blue calicos among them! Beautiful coloration! Can't remember ever having seen anything like those.

Hamad.

Pleased to see that someone made use of the Bidders link in the TVR section. These are beautiful fish.

Indeed as some people have posted, Oranda are also judged from above over here. The ones you have found are gorgeous.

I can confirm that fish of this quality simply don't turn up in the shops here, virtually all fish of this quality are sold directly by the breeder.

If anyone is interested I'll have a look around to see who and where these fish come from.

Regards

TR (Matt)

Yes that's how I found what they're called! Thanks for that TokyoRanchu!

If you find a contact of a farm or something please let me know! I really would love to get some in the future, they're stunning.

Suzuki Azuma also has some at that bidders site as well but I'm not sure if he exports them?
