QUOTE(hun citizen @ Thu 04 Dec 2003 10:08 PM) The aquariums shops section is not inside Chatucak... but besides it, Srisomrat Market. About 90% open everyday from about 8am-6pm during weekdays. If you are looking for topview ranchu... there are about 3-4 shops selling them. You can also cross over the road(Kamphahgphet II Road) to visit Somchai and Boss Ranchu, too. (both Somchai and Boss Ranchu are located in the middle of a 'deserted' building behind a I/H steel multistorey carpark. And the multistorey carpark is located behind the shophouses.) If you have plenty of time, travel slightly up north(Nonthaburi) after Ngam Wongwan Road reaching Rattanatibet Road to visit Apipol Farm(38/24 M2 Bangkrasor, near Carrefour. tel:+66-2-9505751 ). Around that area, that are CS Thai(+66-1-1707971) and NJ Ranchu(+66-2-5738682), too. These few places are located behind Rajchapruek Golf course... also very near to the bangkok international airport. this is great info. thks more qns 1. if u ve only 1.5-2 hrs to spare, which place would u go personally. the market or the farm for side view fish, 2. by the way, which one nearest to airport? 3. which one more convienent to catch a cab or tutu? 4. which one got makan area in case i need to grab a bite while rushing? Hmmm maybe I was just unlucky, but I was damn disappointed. Prices are cheap, but if it isn't almost perfect I really don't see it worth the trouble to handcarry them back.
Take a walk around the LFSs behind Chatujak market. Besides goldfish there are so many more cool stuff to see. And trust me, unless you really do brief window shopping, 2hrs won't be enough. Have fun! |

Are those LFS/Farms usually opened on public holiday as well? The last time I visited Thailand, it was Lunar New Year and damnit... most of the shopping were closed.

QUOTE(hun citizen @ Fri 05 Dec 2003 04:48 PM) If you only have 1-2hours to spare and you prefer sideview ranchu, Chatucak may be a better place. Tanks and tanks of sideview ranchu at very affortable prices... A 400-500bhat($S17-23) sideview ranchu over there can command a price tag of S$100-250 in SG. The one nearest to the airport is, of course, Apipol Farms and the rests. Both areas are easy to flag down a cab. Bangkok has got a larger fleet of taxis than SG. Frankly speakng, I have never ride on a tutu before and I think I will not even try it... take a look at traffic condition and feel the weather... it is not a wise choice. If you do not mind roadside stalls and pushtrolleys(I love their satays with sweet spicy sauce), the road leading into Chatucak has plenty of them. But the surrounding area of Apipol Farm, you can find BigC, The Mall etc. thks great info. chiong ah.... |

But the surrounding area of Apipol Farm, you can find BigC, The Mall etc. My Quick Field Report at Chatuchak One word - It was Hot....! dammed hot. only got 2 hr to spare. so chiong there. mostly wholesaler of goldfih and fighting fishes. a long stretch of fish shops which branch out to the small shops at the sides. nxt one is bird shops and the next dog/cats/rabbit shops, the next antique and household towel and stuff. did not get to the steel building carpark as directed. why? first cannot find. 2nd most pplp don understand the street name in English. to get to chatuchak, i ve to ask the receptionist to translate to thai for me. how abt the fish there? quite disappointing actually. while damm cheap but not worth the effort to fly back. only 2-3 shops caught my attention out of the say 20 over there. What are there? top view ranchu with trophy...baby ones as well. too bad can't appreicate top view. but by standard got fight with those jap ranchu. quite rare to see such huge and well proportion and cheeky top view ranchu. defintely cannot find in singpore except in oseki club and selected farms. Owner hidden it with cover, he opened them (3 tubs) when i showed him to the poster outside his shop. see no touch, remind me of TFT. so did i get any? yes...i am guilty. found one of them with 3 ranchus i like in the tank. selling at more than 100 Sing. in my opinion, these are good looking - nice curves, cheeky and nice even scales. frustrating part is the salegal don know any english.somehow everyone assume i know thai. so i act dumb and use hand language...and have to negotiate price with her boss (a lady too) using her mobile. managed to shave it off 25%. side and top not bad leh....don think can get this type of pricing and quality in singapore though. perhaps at Straits. have to pray hard at the custom. clear it w/o problem, at the plane, let the fish on the storage area but decided against it just incase water burst or water leak out. so get it in the leg rest area. home sweet home and now under quarantine. may ve another buisness trip coming up nxt week again. this time will make it to the farms to take a look. picture? wait ....until it stablise..... worth the visit: Ok no regrets. but don bring yr wife/galfren. visit LHS in thailand u must be mad to suggest this. I throw one stone in the mall and street in town shopping, can hit 2 singaporeans.-one looking and the other squatting and choosing goodies. end of rpt |

Hey, thanks for the nice report. It certainly opened my eyes. I knew bangkok is hot, but it never occur to me that it's even hotter in crowded places. Shall dress light if I go.
And.. we can't wait to see the pics! |

hmm... if they were wipe out during quarantine, maybe it has something to do with your quarantine method? by doing that u r risking the other fish in your main tank.. anyway just keep a lookout
