I am currently keeping my Super Black Ranchus in greenwater with airpump and tiny filter to get rid of waste. Currently feeding on Hikari Lionhead and Sera Vipan Flakes.

I was wondering, whats the best condition and feeds to keep my Super black ranchus stayed black? The belly is also super black!

Black colour will easily fade out if kept in poor water conditions. So you have to make sure weekly water changes. in fact if you keep black goldies, they will be the first ones to show signs of poor water conditions....so always keep an eye on them. I m sure if you search this site, you will find a lot of talk on keeping black colour goldfish.

Also reduce your feeding, in hot summer months.

Green water is no good for black fish, also Hikari Lionhead.
Since Green water and Hikari lionhead will promote color, which no need for black fish.
Clean water is a way to go for Black fish with lot of sun. For food, i recomment Fresh foods or Saki Hikari Growth.

avoid food that promotes "red" colour enchancment.
btw, it all relies on genes. if your black fish has got good strong traits of a true blackie, it should stay black.

So green water is no good for black fish? Does anyone else agree on this?

Im using Hikari Wheatgerm Mini, might be too big for small fish, but giant ones are ok. The saki hikari isnt allowed for import in Australia for some reason.

But, what fruits would you feed goldfish?

Hi,

I suppose it must be the same. By the way, I've noticed black fishes will enhance the black either in sunlight or when exposed to plant growth type light combined with any other light. And these combined lights also provide excellent conditions for green algae wall carpet as well. I've combined 19000°K and with 4800°K T8 fluorescent lamps with very good results.

In my opinion, black color has not much to do with color enhancing food, but with the type of lights the fish is exposed to.

Regards,

Carlos
