CES? Consumer Electronics Show? Only virtual fish there thinking.gif

Goldfish shows here are small and usually a side-show to koi. I'm in Hawaii so it would be same price to go Goldfish Society of America show as Aquarama. If I had the money, I would choose Aquarama.

Steve,
There is a big show in your state.. I wish I could go there too..

It is yet to be seen how big it will be. Our club (Hawaii Goldfish and Carp Association) is almost 50 years old, but has not had a competition/show in several decades. I was given the task of getting the goldfish tanks together and setting them up. Members asked for both top-view and side-view goldfish divisions. Aquaria are easy to come by, but white enamel bowls like used elsewhere are impossible to find here. Therefore, we are going to have to use blue plastic tubs/bowls for the top-view division. Blue actually helps the fish hold it's color better while on display, but they are just not the traditional way of doing things.

Oh yeah.... there will be a koi show too.

dear Steve,

I wish you great success with the show and hope everything is smooth sailing for the organising team.
I think blue tub for the top view judging is not a problem.
But white tub will show the physical detail of a Ranchu even better.

Regards,
Desmond Lee

Thank you for your support and advice about color Desmond .

Another yankee had a thread here asking about where to buy enameled bowls. I bought a few from e-bay, but bowls found there are the smaller size and the shapes vary. We were actually looking for cheap white plastic bowls when we found some blue ones at an affordable price. Maybe we can sell the blue bowls to our koi members after the show and find some white ones by next year.

The top-view division will have some TVR plus wakin, jikin, tosakin, hibuna, probably some butterflys and whatever else people want to enter as top-view fish. My biggest fear is that a hibuna or wakin will jump out of the bowl.

The grand champion was a 23 cm ryukin.

The photo doesn't capture its bulk or personality. It stayed front-and-center in its tank for two days - like it was looking for an oranda to pick on tongue.gif

I was a goldfish vendor and assistant judge so I couldn't enter anything in the competition.
