New Orandas Options

I adopted these two orandas recently. Your comment, bad or good, is highly appreciated for the development of these pieces

Both in my eyes are beauiful.. The wen development suggest that genetics may cause these two to have little or no wen.. you can feed a high protein diet including bloodworms to help them..I have a oranda who has the same head features she was bought with little wen.. After a few short months of excelent water and good protein/vegetable diet shes getting a nice develpment of her wen.. Genetics play a huge role in wen growth is why I say this.. The body style looks nice it seems deep.. I think they are beautiful really! I wanted to add the second one looks part RYU..?? either way.. they are cute and im sure with good conditons you will have 2 beauties in your hands!

Nice fish, Pak! I like the sakura, looks promising and nice tiger-pattern too... I think the wen has potential to grow big when the time comes.

As for fish no. 2, I agree with Bro Jewel that it has a ryukin hump. Oranda x Ryukin is getting popular here, isn't it?

Thx for your commet Jewel. Yup, i dont push the wen development yet since I am focusing in the body growth. Since the fish is very young, I believe that with proper diet, the body can growth well. Wen can be easily developed by giving a lot of blood worm. Blood worm is very abundant here and very cheap. I see the parents of these babies and they have good wen, so genetics are fine.

Yup, they have ryukin blood. The breeder cross breed the oranda and ryukin. But no worry, i see good wen development in the mature fish.

I adopted the sakura last sunday. I asked the farm owner to show me his good piece and he showed me this piece. I fell in love with this piece at my first sight.

Bloodworms are a excelent choice for wen growth.. My guys get bloodworms once daily with 10g water changes daily.. once weekly they get 50%change.. If both parents have good formed wens then the fry should favor this feature .. as far as the RYU/Oranda.. thats a awesome mix.. Ive seen beautiful ones.. That hump gave it away ..

Yup, bloodworm is good for wen. But dont push the wen development too much since it can cause imbalance swimming style if wen development is too much compared to body development

yes indeed.. I focus more on giving spinach and other greens mainly.. they just get a nice hardy bloodworm meal 1 time during the day..

Absolutely love the sakura. The curvature of the back is very close to my ideal. This fish will look phenomenal when finished. The calico, for me, is not as pleasing. The body and finnage do not seem to be balanced, and it may just be the angle, but the caudal seems a bit lacking as well, though the dorsal on this piece is very nice.
Off the topic from your fish, which for all my complaints, are still far better than the vast majority of what we get here in the states, I feel that the oraXryu cross makes lumpy, graceless fish that may look promising when young, but tend to look messy and unbalanced when mature. That's just me though. Personally, I am not a fan of the style of oranda that is currently in vogue in Thailand right now either, which is what the b/r calico reminds me of.
