Is it safe to use eheim cannister filter in a 2ft tank?

Cause I'm afraid that the flow rate may be too powerful for the small tank.

Any way that I can reduce the flow rate?

Is there any way that I can also adjust the output of the pipe?

The rule of thumb to prevent excessive current in the tank is to use a filter/pump that turns over the water not more than 4 to 6 times per hour. If your 2ft tank contains say 120l of water, pump capacity should not be more than say 600 litres/hour.

I have seen external cannisters where you can adjust the output; but not familiar with that though.

I have got a 2213 eheim canister, the flow rate for that is about 440l/h...so as suggested by CP should be fine...

If not im not entirely sure but might get speciall spray bar attachments which could help in reducing the flow rate....other option is that you have values on connectors rite for water inlet and outlet...try to turn them halfway....and not completely close...see if that works....or you can also point the spray bar holes towards your tank wall...so that way not much current in the tank...play with the side bar and see how you can best position is to reduce the current in the tank....

thanks for yr info. coz i got a eheim 2235. think flowrate is 550l/hr. my tank is abt 72 litres. slightly higher than expected.

guess i got to use a rainbar for control.

is current needed? what does it do? is there a specific direction that the current should flow?

Your best bet is to upgrade your tank....coz 72 liters is only enough for 1 adult goldfish. And your 2235 canister will be of waste if your gonna operate on ur 2feet tank.

since you have a nice filter...better option to upgrade your tank to 4-6 feet one....that way u can keep more goldfishes too, given that you control your feed or do more water changes...

As too water currents due to high flow rate....i guess the general opinion is that goldfish dont like it....i dont know the reason you might have to do some readings or some senior members can answer that....I guess ponds are natural habitat for goldfishes....where much of the water is still....maybe this is one reason.

hmm...thanks for the reminder to read up on natural habitat of fishes. guess this is important which slipped my mind.

my tank size is 60x30x40. used the tank calculator and got 72litres. did i get it wrong somewhere?

I'm also using EHEIM 2213 for a 2ft tank but I'm keeping guppies while my 4.5ft pond is housing 7 goldies. Flowrate seems fine even for smaller fish like guppies IMHO.
