Desireless, I am sure it is not a big deal.
Mad cow disease and the unwise practice of putting beef tallow into cattle feed caused a severe over-reaction in the way animal feeds are regulated in the U.S. All feeds have to have the ingredients listed in descending order on the label. OK, we like that part. But, all of the ingredients must be on a Food and Drug Administration master list of ingredients which are "generally recognized as safe". If a feed has an unusual ingredient (grasshopper brains, or something) that is not on the master list then there has to be a study of grasshopper brains to verify that they will not harm anything. Saki-Hikari must have an ingredient(s) which are not on the FDA master list. We all know that a feed with proteins from a wide variety of aquatic sources will have a better amino acid profile than a feed that just contains the usual fish meal and cereal grain. So, from the perspective of the goldfish enthusiast, this regulation constrains the feed manufacturer's ability to offer us a better product. Our tax dollars at work. -steve |
