Hi Calicoly, welcome to RG
I'm Aussie too and collects ranchus. It's hard to find a decent ranchu here which make you appreciate it more when you see a good one There are many bros here who are experienced in keeping ranchus and can impart many wisdom to us newbies |

One LFS in Sydney sold a high grade ranchu for $600 and when I looked at it it's no better than AA grade. LFS also tend not to stock these high grade ranchus because ppl don't want to spend that kind of money
I feel that to get a good ranchu at a decent price you have to buy from a private owner. There are a few OZ website that show ads for private sales in Australia. They can save you hundreds of dollars I recently got 2 -15 cm ranchus there for $120 each |

Yeah I think it's the same person I bought my goldies from. I was lucky because I live only a few blocks from his house so I can choose what I want when he has a new batch. I posted a pic of two red ranchus I bought from him in this forum
Can you get him to send you a few photos that you can choose from? I also saw an ad in petlink recently about a guy in Melb who is selling his 9 cm black ranchu for $110. Did you check it out? This post has been edited by lnicky: Sun, 17 Feb 2008 4:12 pm |

If you want to come to see the fish you'd better wait for the new batch so the good ones are still there. Let me know if you decide to come to Sydney so I can take you fish shopping |

We get lots of good ryukins and orandas as they have more demand. an XL A+ or AA probably cost you $80 a piece compared to $150 for ranchus. There are a couple of good LFS that stock nice goldies. TransAquarium in Canley Vale is a goldfish specialist so they have large stocks of goldfish -ryukins, orandas (they have blue/black orandas), bubble eyes etc. Lam in Parammatta occasionally has nice ryukins and orandas (I bought the best jumbo veiltail ryukin there). I just hope that one day someone bring a TVR to OZ. I guess it's a bit hard since Japan is not on the approved list of goldfish exporter in Australia. AQIS Import Condition - C9976 Live freshwater fish may only be imported from approved countries listed below: Bahrain Belgium China Federated States of Micronesia Fiji French Polynesia Germany Hong Kong Indonesia Kenya Malaysia New Caledonia New Zealand Philippines Saudi Arabia Senegal Seychelles Singapore Solomon Islands South Africa Sri Lanka Thailand United States of America (USA) so Japan is not on the list so I assumed you can't import from there. I never believed when LFS owner says their fish are from Japan. Most goldies in OZ are from China or Malaysia I personally like SVR but TVR is in a class of its own and share the same status as koi. TVR are beautiful but you must have pond and you must have hot weather all year round (which means Melb is out of the picture ) |
