On the contrary, this is something to hooha about. It is a big deal.
This Youth Olympics games is a worldwide thing. It will bring SG to worldwide awareness in world of sports. ...But of course, most ppl are more interested in the economic gain and surge in tourism during the games A sidenote: The song "Stand Up For Singapore" was played after they announced the result. This is the song every Singaporean should learn by hard. On 2 different occasions, 2 caucasian colleagues have asked me about this song. One told me this song is very touching, seeing everyone singing it during NDP when he was here on a tour 10 yrs ago. Another said the same thing and... he could even sing it |

I don't remember ever watching the Youth Olympics on TV before.
I'm sorry, I just don't get it, this euphoria after we were awarded the games. My first reaction was like: 'Big Deal!' There are bigger things that the Govt has to worry about come the next GE. |

Err...., you don't see it before in the TV, is because this will be the 1st Youth Olympic....
Agreed with Desireless that it's more on economical and tourism gain, just like the F1 on September. |

Silly me. I thought this had been going on for decades already.
Again, its no big deal; doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that PAP will get to host it over Moscow. |

I don't remember ever watching the Youth Olympics on TV before. Wah... ...like that ah? No wonder... Anyway, some Russians reading this must be laughing, either in humour or disgust. Something that they fought so vigoriously for over these few months went to another country and its citizens think is "no big deal". They might think that we are some sort of insulting shmuck or just simply ignorant. I foresee a topic in some russin forums that says "We lose our Youth Olympics campaign to a country where her citizen don't appreciate its significance". It's an insult... rubbing salt to wounds. Imagine you won a fight and you squat down to ask your opponent "Why you want to fight your life over something which I also don't want?" For those who did not follow this issue, perhaps do a small research on this during your leisure time.... You will grow to appreciate the people and work done behind getting this award. Seriously ah... Seeing how Russia had aggressively campaigned for this too, most ppl, including myself would have bought Moscow to win during the final round. Even the other countries that were ousted the first 2 rounds were no cotton candies. On thing about winning this award that affects me most... current stadium facility is going to improve tremendously over these 2 years.. Yeah! |

got budget surplus what......
...Call All"GBlack" and "Cwonderland.....buy their share..... Spore so good in building wet market overnight ...sure can one.... West Jurong can open up the unsold HDB also what. if any is left. Terminal 3 nobody to use how can? !!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- actually for all key cabinet staff to be at padang and with speech ready ; the host for the venue is already in the pocket for Spore. U notice u never see the same crowd in Moscow eagerly waiting for the result similar to then France, London and New York vying for the bigger olympics for 2008 .... ================================================================== hosting this is even Bigger than SEAS games especially being the 1st nation to do so. Hopefully this is enough to drive some fiscal spending to boost the economy and to showcase to the world just like what Japan did in 1964. other than CHina, Korea and Australia whom host the bigger Olympics.....it is abt time it comes back to Asia and in small Spore for this mini scale event. actually it is a big deal if Spore wants to showcase to the world what it could do and what it has to offer as a small nation.....otherwise......money not enough........ the games do bring with it some economical and publicity benefits i.e tourist money.... |

Only 3000+ athletes........not really that big a games.
I think this is bigger than SEA Games, but smaller than Commonwealth and Asian Games. In terms of publicity and money spinner, its nowhere near F1.Stock market no reaction at all the day after news was announced. Compared to when they first announced F1, and only rumours initially, many stocks eg Ong Beng Seng's HPL went beserk. |

Wonder if it could have been "Selamat Jalan" for us if Mas Selamat's escape happened before the announcement of the result Or should it be MASS SELAMAT TINGGAL then......

All of this reeks of politics to me, as innocent as the 'Youth' Olympics sound.
I don't want to make this into another PAP-bashing thread but I am sorry, anything and everything under Lee junior's regime, I will approach it with cynicism. And anyway, politics is rife in local and global sporting associations, like the SAAA, FIFA and UEFA. |
