Hello,

great site! I joined a few months ago and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm still lurking and studying the archives. I am new to goldfish keeping, starting about 6 months ago.

I have four pearlscales, three ranchu and one black moor. I think I'm going to concentrate on pearlscales~it's that pearlscales thread here that has me hooked!

My other hobby is growing orchids, mostly dracs, lepanthes, some paphs with a few mini catts.

Ironically this website is Singapore based and Singapore is famous for her Orchids, which is also the National Flower.

But I know nuts about them though. blush.gif

Only noticed that many grow them using charcoal instead of soil, or something like that. rolleyes.gif

I just liked them so I started growing them...I grow pretty much species. indoors, under lights.. mostly Draculas, a few mini-catts, paphs and others.

the most universally important tip ever....learn how to water your plant/do not overwater. any other advice would depend on the plant and your growing conditions.

here are a couple of hairy latins I bloomed last year peace.gif

yeah, the traditional mix is a combination of bark, charcoal and sphagnum moss. they could probably grow in straight charcoal and it would be best to on top of feeding and have high humidity with good light but they are plants so they are mutable. They are probably easy to grow in singapore since many in cultivation are native to that area of asia. I bet you could even keep Vandas, Dendrobiums or Bulbophyllums outside on your patio or attach to trees and have virtually no maintenance, letting mother nature and the seasons do all the work for you. biggrin.gif
