When keeping goldfish in green water, i see many people changing the water 90 percent each week. Is this necessary and why? if it is and it is because of overpopulation of the algae, can we just turn on the uv light for maybe a couple hrs a week to keep the algae population under control and do small water change?

To prevent water becoming too green, and also to see our fishes up close. biggrin.gif

Never tried UV to crontrol algae though.....does it work?

I'm not sure if it work or not but if the reason for water change is to control algae population, then it should work right. just take out 10 percent of the green water, run the uv light for a couple hr or until water is clear, do maybe 20 to 30 percent waterchange and put the seed back in should right work.
