What pellet sizes can i feed my goldfish according to their size/length? Is there a particular size i should feed goldfish of a certain length? Will the goldfish take time to get used to a bigger size pellet?

Hi Goldfish8, Goldfish are very adaptable to any pellet size, but I personally preferred to feed them with the smallest sinking pellets I can find. It's easier for them to munch and suitable to all sizes of fish.

I'd recommend a sinking pellet for "fat bellied" varieties of goldfish such as ranchu, ryukin etc.
Simply because it reduces the occurence of air filled bellies that result in the fish flipping upside down and floating on top of the water. |

Can a sinking pellet 4.0~4.3mm in size fit into a regular 4.0~4.8inch oranda's or ryukin's mouth? I want to feed hikari sinking wheat germ medium sized pellets to my goldfish. Is this okay?

It is ok to feed it but I would recommend small pellet according to my sensi.

I normally soaked them up to make them to soften a bit. Size really doesn't matter for fish of half an inch size and above. They would just bite it off.

Some floating type pallets do take longer like hikari oranda and hikari spirulina. For those floating types soak them once they are soft gently squeeze them to make the air come out and sunk to the bottom. Then feed your fish. You can alway test squeeze the pallet to see if its soften up.. and adjust your time. With practice you can tell how long it takes for each type of pallet in a short time. |
