Black Pearlscale Ranchu Options

Just bought this ranchu last Saturday. About 7 cm length. Tail and back curve are not so good, but this type is still rare. For your viewing pleasure and comment.

Not sure about that. We usually feed them with frozen bloodworm and color enhancer pellet. Any bros here can advise me what pellet is good for my black ranchu? I heard that pellet with spirulina or color enhancer is not good for black ranchu. Thanks...

I say it is a "specialty" to Indonesia. It does not mean the indonesian started this species. But until now ony Indonesia is known to maintain breeding this species.

goldfish coloration is the most headache problem people have. They will change as they grows and sometime without reasons. Maintaining their pigmentation I would say is not an easy task.
The Black Ranchu you bought have good coloration except some slight fading on the belly (indeed it is the most difficult to maintain the blackness at that area and fading will usually started from bottom up). If I am not wrong, it was kept in green water before.
There are several factors that affect the goldfish coloration from my past self-reserach and experiences:-
a) Genetic (there is nothing much you can do about it). E.g. you can't turn a China black as dark as a Thai black. Also, you don't get what you expect when a fish grows, temporarily coloration e.g. unstable black, brown..., will go away with time (and may even come back!!).
b) Health of the goldfish, you will notice the more healthy the fish is, the more vibrant the coloration and vice versa.
c) Food. For your case, I think is best not to feed any colour enhancement product. Go for forzen or freeze dry products or colour maintenance food.
d)Last but not least, environment factors espeicially lighting is important. I believed not too strong and controlled lighting is needed. green water is always the best, espeically it shield the light. I also noticed goldfish kept in opaque plastic (blue is the best) or cement tank also help to maintain and promote the coloration. That's why some people have the inhouse glass tank background pasted "blue" or "black". Nowadays, fished are kept domestically in a cleared water tank without much lighting control and I think that is bad for goldfish coloration.

There is still no concrete evidence that goldfish changes colour with their environment. So the blue or black surrounding is simply a matter of choice.

Interesting issue. The LFS/farmer advise me to "sun-bathing" the fish for 15 minutes every morning, to keep the black color. I also heard that sun light is good for the coloration. Is it also good for black ranchu?

Maybe in a controlled manner. But I would think genetic is till the ultimum factor. That's why there can only be a few show grade "AAA" black Ranchu.
