Are SVR and TVR effectively the same fish, selected as fry and during breeding looking for the characteristics most resembling either SV or TV and groomed accordingly depending on which one you are wanting?
Apologies for the beginners question, i have sifted through tons of posts and cant find an answer although i am now fully educated on the ideal traits of each fish. many thanks |

Yes ; more or less. You got the first part right, same fish. There is technically no SVR or TVR, both are ranchus. SVR is a termed coined when the fish looks better when viewed from side; likewise TVR from top. It is more difficult to get good TVRs compared to SVRs. And, a good TVR usually looks good when viewed from the side as well, but not vice versa. |

The best Ranchu are Japanese and Japanese Ranchu are viewed from above (TVR). The bloodlines are very distinct and the quality high.

Thanks for clearing it up.
How much would you expect to pay for several young jap fish from a reliable breeder in the UK? |
