During my initial cycle I kept the salinity level at 0.1%.  Since you already added and the fish don't behave strangly like ... died.  Start diluting when you do water change, as you are changing 20% everyday, by the third or fourth day you would have brought down your salinity level to 0.1%.  After that maintain 0.1% against the volume of water change.

Cheers

Okie, Thanks for advising smile.gif

uh...roughly 2 teaspoons for 20L of water , ~ 0.05%. salt is added as a preventive measure.

how much do u put?

I don't apply salt as a preventive measure. I let the fish takes care of itself by making sure the water quality is always good.

Har ??? add salt frequently also not good meh ???  unsure.gif  unsure.gif

I always add 0.2% ( abt 260g into my 86 litres tub or 50g per 28 litres of water change )

I got the above amount from the AquaCaculator at RG.

Poll Poll Poll

Do U guys add salt everytime U change water ?

If yes, wat percentage ?

0% is my answer.

The idea of adding salt to your water after water change probably stem from LFS owner who gives out this advice to newbies. You see, salt does have the effect of reducing stress for fish in a new un-cycled tank. Frankly most experienced goldfish keepers won't ask LFS owner for advise so I guess the owner always assumed you're a newbie if you need his advise. Thus many of them the knowledge they have on hand caters to pple with new setup, ie, un-cycled tank, an dhence they ask you to add salt.

Don't!

And I just checked the AquaCalculator here but I can't find any mention of using salt, or the salinity level to archieve, as a sickenss prevention measure. Only treatment and bath's dosage are listed.
